A Mistake At 18?

Did the Dolphins make a mistake by not selecting Cesar Ruiz, a player that some analysists project to be a PB caliber center, at 18? Curious.

OT was a more pressing need at 18. Jackson has a huge upside. First team All-Pac 12, 20 yrs old and he improved tremendously the second half of the yr. He should only get better.

Kind of depends on how things look after a coupe of years no? What if Jackson is an All Pro LT? I doubt anyone would say it was a mistake at that point.

I think they did make a mistake as they probably could have had Austin or another player in the same talent range later on.

How do you know? Did you scout both players? I’ll defer this one to Grier and Flores who seem to be on the same page

Who knows at this point.

I'll say this, Flores seems to be able to coach guys up and get the most out of them. Anybody that has the high potential that Jackson does (per analyst), we have to believe that Flo is going to get the most out of them.

We had by far the worst roster in the league last year and tons of guys playing that werent even on the team when training camp started. By the second half of the season, we were competitive in every game.

Personally, I didnt like the pick.......but I believe in Flores.

In retrospect yes, there's a good chance that Jackson would have been there at 26. I mean Josh Jones and Lucas Niang have just gone in the third round for chrissakes. But OT was a pressing need and many mocks had Jackson, Jones and Niang as potential first round picks.

I think it appears with the likes of Jackson, Hunt and Jones that Flores and Grier value character guys and are willing to pay a premium for that. Let's hope they can play as well.

I would have much preferred Ruiz with the next best LT prospect available at 26, than what we did. Jackson was mocked as mid-2nd round in often, so I still think he may have been there at 26. Or trade up if worried.

I don't know if I would have taken Ruiz at 18 but I would not have taken Jackson. He or Jones would have been there at 26

They said the my wanted Ruiz but missed out. So, if they grabbed Ruiz at 18, they could have Austin later. If Austin was off the board by their next pick, there were many OL available to chose from.
