I have tried to fight it and not see the perfect missing piece of the puzzle that is the Miami Dolphins. I even argue with friends about my disdain for his worshippers. But, alas, I have come to the conclusion that the most sensible, complementary, and available player out there that can help immediately improve Miami is… gulp… Tim Tebow.
New offensive coordinator Brian Daboll was already a big fan of the Wildcat, and used it effectively last year in Cleveland with receiver Josh Cribbs running the show. While it has been hinted that Daniel Thomas will take over as the Wildcat pivot, imagine Tebow being the situational Wildcat/goal line specialist instead. It would keep Thomas fresher, put Tebow back in the shotgun where he is comfortable, and give more of a throwing threat, albeit limited, to the formation that the Dolphins used to strictly run the ball in the past. In such a scenario, Tebow could be coached along slowly as a tight end, while still using his skills in packages the Dolphins already have in place. The word is he could be had cheaply as well. (Editor’s note: rumor is the Dolphins have Phillip Merling on the block, a good pairing with the Broncos.)
While most in South Florida would hate nothing more than thousands of Gator fans getting behind Miami for the sake of their Chosen One, one thing UF has is important: numbers. Stephen Ross has to know this would be a slam dunk success for marketing as Tebow could come back to the Sunshine State and be utilized in a way where people wouldn’t be showing up to see him ride the bench.
Everyone knows the Dolphins need help at quarterback, especially in the red zone. But they already have the “pro-style” quarterbacks in Chad Henne and Matt Moore. Tebow would be just the kind of change of pace player that would complement them well, and keep defenses on their toes. If he became the tight end I think he can be, he could be on the field for well over half the offensive snaps, while being the team player most appreciate regarding his character and work ethic.
