I may get some bad feedback on this but I was looking at the prospects of the what if..

What if the Saints cannot come to a long term deal with Jimmy Graham? As a franchise that is in need of a spark and big play potential, would you if you were in Hickey's shoes, send 2 first round picks to the Saints to lock up Graham?

Most of you may be wondering, why would we do that? We have Charles Clay and just drafted a big target in Sims.

Looking into our division, the New England Patriots offense has pretty much lived and died with their TE tandem of Gronk and Hernandez. Gronk being injured and their WRs looking ours did in 2007, Brady has struggled. having the idea of a better player than Gronk, almost impossible to cover (as we saw in week 4 of this past season) could help Tannehill's continued development, especially in the red zone. The move will also take the safety that is shadowing Wallace and force them to look at Graham, allowing Wallace more opportunites to explode. I feel Lazor may bring "Desean Jackson" type ability to Wallace and make him better. Granted, none of this will work unless we have a capable offensive line, to give Tannehill more than 2 seconds to throw the ball.

So, sitting here as couch GMs and would obviously like our team to get back to the way they were for so many years, would you trade 2 first round picks to the Saints (non conference team) for a 26 year old TE who is and will be a superstar if healthy. Or would you sit back at 19 and wait for an OL to start building the foundation in front of Ryan Tannehill? Thoughts, other ideas?

As always, looking forward to others opinions..

We can't afford Graham in my opinion. Even if he ended up here somehow, we'd have too many holes still that would hurt his production.

No chance. None. And theres already a recent daydream thread about this

Jimmy isn't leaving New Orleans. there's about a 0.0001 percent chance that he leaves New Orleans, and that 0.0001 would be because he murdered a man.

If they don't come to a deal with Jimmy he'd be franchised no question. There's no point in even talking scenarios in which he'd come here, because he's not going anywhere.

And I doubt you get graham even if you offered two picks.... which would be insane to begin with lol

just draft the next one in Sefarian Jenkins

The Saints are going to franchise him but we can all dream. I was listening to a local sports show and they mentioned Graham leaving New Orleans for Miami. Of course that's merely speculation and it won't happen but I really would like to see RT with a big TE. All young Qbs need a threat at TE.

The money would be too much to land him. Draft Ebron or ASJ and save money. Why keep paying for someone elses talent and not create and develop our own?

Looks like the Saints are starting early to make room for Graham.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 3m

The #Saints announce they have released S Roman Harper, DE Will Smith and CB Jabari Greer. They won’t re-sign Jonathan Vilma.

#Saints GM Mickey Loomis: “With the start of free agency in March, these difficult moves allow us to position our team under the salary cap”

Brian McIntyre ‏@brian_mcintyre 1m

By releasing Harper, Greer & Smith, Saints save $19.2M in cash, $16.9M in cap space (if Harper/Greer released outright) in 2014

My opinion is if we had a GM in place that could identify playmakers and potential hall of famers we would've had Earl Thomas AND Jimmy Graham in 2010 instead of the trio of Odrick/Misi/John Jerry. I hope Hickey can prove himself to be smarter than Ireland was when it comes to drafting ELITE prospects and not "solid" players

it's pretty clear that the Saints will do whatever they can to keep him .... more than likely 'Franchise' him ...

but for those to say 'why' would you want to commit a good chunk of $$$ to him at age 25 ... REALLY, I mean R-E-A-L-L-Y .... do you think you aren't going to get 5-8 years of Pro-Bowl play out of him?? I thought the goal was to acquire playmakers (or rather difference makers)??

hell I'd offer Gonzales franchise $$$ just to play this year alone .... that's how important a TE like that would be for this offense (even in his 'diminished' state). I know he wouldn't take it (why would he) ...

Pitta is not nearly as good as Graham, but I'd take him as well .... just not for nearly the same $$$$ (he is not the difference maker that Graham is) ...

It's all moot, since our likely avenue for TE is through the draft ... we need to make this pick count ....
