What was the buzz and feeling about the team going into the 72 season? We were fresh of a superbowl loss to the.....Vikings? If im correct which I may not be but oh well, anyway how does the excitment going into that season compare to previous seasons, and this season?

Reprieve

I'll give you a break for being young. I was young once.:sidelol:

I was only 6 at the time so I was probably more worried about getting some new hot wheels and watching Scooby-Doo....though I was already liking the Fins at that time due to the dolphin on the helmet.

haha! Kids pick the weirdest things to like teams over. My friend is a Patriots fan (I know, I know) but he said he got into them because the guy on the patriot face reminded him of his uncle! He must have been 10 or younger.

I was in college during the Super Bowl years. I hate to think of 53 as old but..................

The national buzz, what there was, remember this is in the days before ESPN and sports talk radio, was that the AFC was inferior and Shula was lucky. Floridians knew better!

Not only were the Phins perfect in '72 they also led the leahue in both offense and defense. Despite being 16-0 lots of "experts" laughed at us beating the mighty Redskins because they were the NFC champs. While we all loved Griese, Morris, Kiick, Warfield, et. al. it was the "no-name defense" that was greatest!

Great anticipation, even after the loss to the Cowboys...but, then, Griese brakes an ankle early in the season and Earl Morrall (greatest Dolphin b/u QB of all times, at least for that gloriuos season) comes in and takes us to the playoffs...struggles during the playoffs and Griese takes over...what a story !!

The early 70's WERE the years...look at how many HOF'ers came out of those teams. Plus the greatest coach of all time...

First practice ever.... Wow! Now that's a fact you don't read everyday on the boards.

I was 13, we were staying on St Pete Beach until our house was ready up in New Port Richey. There were pretty girls everywhere and guys doing workouts and semi-organized calesthenics. Later my Dad took me to Boca Ciega HS where they went through the earliest portions of their camp. Being the only pro franchise of ANY sport at the time in the state, they were trying to garner a state-wide following. I think they did some stuff in the old Tangerine Bowl and the Old Gator Bowl as well.

Ohiophinphan, a fan built from the ground up. Interesting stuff.

New Port Wrinkle 40 years ago? Wow, was 19 even paved there back then?

Shula was known as a Super "loser" because of SB III. The Redskins in fact, were slight favorites to beat the Fins. I do believe taht the '73 Fins were an even better team, they were so dominate!

The buzz was high, we had just been humiliated by the Cowboys in Superbowl 6 and there was a strong feeling of wanting to get back to the big game and show everybody that that was not the real Miami Dolphins.

The buzz is different when you are defending AFC Champs versus coming off a 9-7 season.

I remember in the 1973 season that followed the undefeated season, we as fans expected to win every game, we just knew we were the best team in the league.
