We all know we haven't had a real QB since Marino.

And we haven't had a real coach since this guy.

Here's hoping we find another real soon. Tony now in his 4th season ties with Wanny for our longest tenurd coach.

A salute to the REAL coach Don Shula.

17 and 0 says it all. Perrrrrfection.

Interesting that since Shula retired in 97 and Marino in 99 we have had neither a great coach or QB. Which is more important?

A great coach KNOWS he needs a great QB,or he will soon be a TV color guy.

Youve got a chance if you have either one.

If you have niether your screwed.

If you have BOTH it's golden don't you think?

There are some fact on that link that are amazing.
2 losing seasons in 33 years. TWO ... unbelievable.

lol

a great coach wins super bowls. don won 2 in his long tenure. tony has coached the miami dolphins for three seasons. he came to this team after we went 1 and 15 1n 2007. he has one division championship and an overall record { comeing in to this season} of 25 and 23. the same record sean payton had befor leading the saints to a super bowl in 2009. the miami dolphins will make a terrible decision if they let tony sparano go before he has all his ducks in a row and before henne takes his last full step into becoming a solid nfl starting QB...GO PHISH!!!!

And yet today's NFL wouldn't have allowed him to last 33 years. Hell, Tom Coughlin is on the outs in NY after winning a Superbowl in 2007. 2007!

I agree you need either and both set your team for quite a while, but you also have to allow both to develop. Two good examples of this: Belichick and Brees.

whatever your smoking give me some.

Patience is a wonderful quality to have.

Unfortunatly life is short ... and i'm getting old.

Two most important positions on any team but if I had to pick one I'd pick great QB. A great QB can carry a bad coach and a otherwise mediocre team to the promise land. Brady saved BB and together they built a dynasty. Caldwell looks lost out there without Manning. You can mask a decent QB with great personnel everywhere else but its so much easier with that dominant QB, which is why we need to get either Luck or Barkley in this next draft.

its called common sense. who is going to want to coach this team anyway with steven ross as owner. when we are above 500. i want you guys to make up some reson why it has nothing to do with coaching.

Great QB by the length of the world over. Great coaching can only overcome so much lack of talent...and the same is true of a great QB.

But a great coach doesn't attract a great QB the way a great QB can attact a great coach. The QB spot is so important in today's game. Great coaches understand this. And dudes like Jon Gruden and much more easily coaxed out of the box if you can offer him the promise of a great QB.

Or the chance to draft one of his OWN choosing.

:ponder: His ego might clash with a proven star.

How many field goals has Payton fistpumped?

Love revisionist history.

If Shula were the coach today, people would be screaming for him to be fired.
