The above are the franchise tag costs for this year, which agents use in salary negotiations. It shows the value NFL teams put on positions, which is very important in any draft strategy. Let's take a look at how this year's draft may impact next years team, players, and cap.

TE and S are the lowest on the tag pole. So, if Keller or Jones has a great year, the tag option would be very affordable.

Not so on a CB if Grimes comes back to Pro Bowl form. He wold cost a bunch, and VG reason to draft a CB or two, as many here have said.

Then, there is the OL, where there are bargains as we have seen, and in the medium range cap wise for most teams.

Moving on to our DL. Starks and Soliai will cost around $15M this year, which is crazy for two DT's (one a part timer) but, does work this year. NO WAY it will next year. IF we take a DE and DT able to start next year, Odrick moves inside, and we save around $12M. This has to be done.

Finally, at WR, I'm good with what we have, and they are under contract for a few years. I would wait until next year to add one in the draft, unless it is a value mid to late round pick.

My view on Dollars and Sense.

Also the drafts strength this year is along both lines. IMO we could set ourselves up for years to come, by drafting O'line, DE n DT with first 3 picks. The CB position this year has tremendous depth, so I would even consider doubling up in 3rd.

Yes, filling in those blanks for next year are of the utmost importance. The draft has to work to make the cap work. We did very well this year, without paying a QB. IF we are to contend, that will change. On this team, no one is worth a LOT of money but, that is likely to change or, it will be back to the drawing board.
