Miami Herald:

Meanwhile, Sparano said running back Ronnie Brown's foot surgery ``went well'' Friday morning. Asked if he expected Brown to be ready for the 2010 season, he paused before repeating with a small smile, ``The surgery went well. I don't have a crystal ball . . .''

This could be open for interpretation, but it does seem like Ronnie's future with the fins is surely questionable. In my opinion he will not be back.

I'm not sure where you get Ronnie is done with the Fins out of that. All TS said was the surgery went well, and he has no more of an idea than we do about Ronnie's readiness for the next season at this point.

But anyways, I don't think we'll let him go, unless we want to lose 2 of our best backs this offseason.

I doubt parcells would let a player of Ronnie's talent go to another team. Ronnie Brown is top 5 most balanced running backs. Run/Catch/Block, even pass. He's also built to take 20-25 carries a game like he used too before Williams came back. This guy is too dangerous to let anyone else have.

If it is his last year as a dolphin I would be very surprised and sad. I hate losing good players. Plus, who would take ricky's spot if he left? It may be easier to train running backs then any other position, but its a gamble. With ronnie we know what we're getting, a good quality player who isn't a media distraction and can get the job done.

Why do you have to assume that if Ronnie isn't back it'll be because the Dolphins don't want him? Ever think of the possibility that Ronnie might WANT to play elsewhere? That alone is enough for Sparano to not have a straight answer.

I think its up to Ronnie. If he is willing to understand that they will not break the bank for a player who is injured every year and willing to take a solid but not top 5 contract, they can work something out.

If he wants to be paid more than his rookie contract, he will probably have to go on the market. Unfortunately, i can see some team out there that will roll the dice and lay down the cash. The rest of the league views him as a premier player, even if some fin fans just look at stats to judge him.

Nobody in the league orchestrates the wildcat as well as Ronnie. If this coaching staff still wants to run a wildcat heavy offense, he'll be back.

This +++1. And, I still think there is a committment to the WILDFIN beyond this year. That will make him wanted by this FO. But, his injuries does hurts his bargaining power with us. But will someone else take the reward over the risk ratio???

Where would he want to play? In miami he's the go to guy. . . plus were a playoff caliber team. It's really only safe to assume that if he left it would be because the dolphins don't want him. He needs to stay right here in Miami where he belongs, Jason Taylor can knock some sense into him if he feels like leaving to another team.

u guys act like ronnie is peterson or johnson get over it already ronnie is not a home run threat anymore he always gets tackled from behind. he's not a top 5 back and not worth the money he's going to want.

If we don't resign him he will be a patriot the next day, Bill Belichick is always saying what a great player Ronnie is and if im not mistaken i think he said Ronnie was the best back in the league a few times. They will need a RB since Maroney has not panned out and i can see Bill Jumping all over Ronnie

I disagree for 2 reasons: 1. You didn't provide any evidence as to why he isn't worth anything other then getting tackled from behind all the time, which isn't true. 2. You don't know what he's going to want so how do you know he is or isn't worth it?

Granted, I wouldn't break the bank for him because of injury risk, but I would resign him with an injury/performance clause. He's too balanced and too young to let go just now. Look at ricky williams, he's 32 and runs like he's 22. I'm all for resigning brown, just be smart about the contract.

Found this at http://www.footballsfuture.com/2010/fa/rb.html

Anyone know anything about this option? Player option or team option?

Ronnie Brown, Miami Dolphins (27) – Restricted FA
Ronnie Brown has been the key to the Dolphins offense which largely runs through him and the Wildcat. He has returned to form to look like one of the league’s best backs. Brown’s combination of size, wiggle, instincts, and speed is elite. His top-notch production and efficiency (4.5 average, 7 touchdowns) should garner plenty of incentive for Miami to keep around for another 4-5 year deal. The Dolphins will wait and see what happens with the CBA because Brown has an interesting option built into his contract. Should the owners and the NFL Players Association reach a new deal before the deadline, a $5 million 2010 option will kick in, but otherwise Brown will become a Restricted Free Agent.

They don't re sign running back, especially ones that get re injured and will probably be asking for the type of money that he'll be asking since he can run the wild cat. This was probably one of the reasons why we got Pat White. By Sparano smiling and saying he has no stright answer could be opend for interpretaion like i orginally stated, this was the way i saw it.

Also found this. I guess it is Ronnie's option.

It's likely Brown will remain a Dolphin in 2010 because he's due a base salary of $5 million next year, and while the deal does include an opt-out clause, it wouldn't financially benefit the fifth-year veteran to exercise the clause because he would still be a restricted free agent unless the NFL signed a new collective bargaining agreement.
