is it just me?...or do you guys feel that we took a step backwards today?...with the release of 4 guys on our team and the signings of 4 unknowns... I don't feel good about it at all....i was stoked with the original 53 man roster...and now with the release of two corners we lack depth at that position...can someone give me an idea of what Coach Saban is trying to do with this team?

I felt the exact same way when I saw it for the first time.

However, lets give Coach Saban 1 more day... who knows what he has up his sleeve.

didn't BB bring in a bunch of unknowns for the pats? that turned out all right didn't it? besides the players we cut either suck or belong in the PS

Really?

You were "stoked" about our 53 last night? Must not take much to make you happy.

But seriously, I can see being apprehensive about new faces when the original 53 at least went through all of training camp and the preseason and the staff at least knew what we had. With new faces you never know. But at least with McGill, there were seven teams that had him on their want list, so I feel pretty good about him. The FB is supposed to be a bruiser. And hey, the CB position, well I haven't felt good about that since Surtain left so...whatever!

Look, I like the move at DT. McGill seems to be well-liked by Jets fans, and Shaw was a mediocre guy.. So I'll say we improved there.

TE, I liked Holmes, but he could still land on the PS, and Heller is huge and has some experience. This is a wash IMO, no real loss.

The real problem for me is cutting TWO CORNERS with experience, a position we are thin at, for a FB (who has gotten rave reviews, but still not necessarily a need at this point) and a CB that seems to have been released due to injury? I dont know what else is going to happen, we could still sign a guy like Middlebrooks and all of a sudden the moves seem OK- I think right now the shock of losing these two corners is standing out in all of our minds, so we are overlooking some potentially decent moves. And its not like Edwards/Richard were lighting it up...

it is hard to take a step backwards from a 4 and 12 season and a 1 and 3 preseason. Whatever saban chooses I will abide by...I have the faith.

Please don't insult BB by comparing him to Saban! He's a 3-time SB winner while Saban hasn't even won 1 game in the NFL. Saban isn't on Wanny level yet (though I fully expect and hope he will pass him quickly).

Saban may be a good coach but if anyone thinks that we have made upgrades with these moves (except for maybe Heller), you're kidding yourself. If these moves are a sign that we are completely in rebuilding mode, why start Frerotte over Sage?

Now thats an unfair statement. You are in no position to judge this. You have not watched much of Eckel/Heller/McGill/Jackson, and you have probably looked at Holmes/Richard/Edwards/Shaw with your aqua and orange glasses on. When it comes to this, you just have to trust Saban. No, we didnt add "name" players, but if you think about it, all Wanny did was add the "name" guys and it got him/us nowhere. Saban has preached that it is the bottom 25 guys on the roster that make the team, not the top. These moves are all just to tweak the depth, and when it comes to some unknown guys, you have to trust the guys that watch the tape and are paid to make these moves- Mueller and the personnel staff.

I dont understand why there are so many people questioning these moves.

Saban said from the very beginning that there were players that just weren't buying into his philosophy, and that he was very concerned about the depth.

Randy Mueller didn't win Executive of the year just by baking cookies for the awards commitee

Look, at first glance its a shock. I was angry at first as well. You see the headline "Dolphins Add 4 Players" and you expect to see Teyo Johnson, JT OSullivan, Willie Middlebrooks etc. etc. and you see guys you never heard of being added in place of guys we have been talking about for a month. But, when you think about it, it has little impact on our starters, and Saban must believe that these guys were ineffective and not worth carrying... so lets bring in some new blood that will work their tails off to keep their jobs.

Saban is a pretty clear thinker. I believe they have done their homework on these guys and furthermore no other team is very likely to pick up the guys he let go. Therefore at the very least Saban gets to look at these new guys and if somebody does not work out he can probably still re-sign the guy who was cut.

you know how everybody keeps saying we need to get rid of the people from the Wanny/Spielman era? Saban is slowly building the team in his image. Let's face it, most of the guys on our team will struggle in Saban's system. Saban is getting his type of players for a cheap price. We will take a step back, expect some more moves in the next couple of days. But as everybody said at the beginning of the year we needed to rebuild. Well guys, the purging has begun.

Let's put it this way: With the new CB, we have someone very fast and doesn't get beat by WR time and time again. I mean, come on? Even Chambers said he knows about Mario Edwards when he was beating him in the Miami vs. Dallas Thanksgiving Throwback game a couple years back.

this is the way I look at it.

with waivers, you have to assume the players contract from their previous team. Thats the reason that there's no chance of anybody picking up AJ off waivers or trading for him for that matter.

when these players become FAs, you can sign them to any contract that you'd like.

For example, say Teyo had 3 years left, and 2 mil left on his deal. Then he gets waived. The Dolphins put in a claim, and then must pay him the rest of that deal.

Now, instead, Teyo clears waivers and is now a FA. The Dolphins offer him a 3 year, 1.5 mil deal, and he accepts. The Dolphins just saved some cap room right there
