A lot of classic radio voices in this one. Phil Hendrie on the pre and post, Jeff Deforrest, Jim Mandich, and Kim Bokamper.

22 years of not doing any better than the last few w Shula (playoffs 90’, 92’, 94’, 95’). 93’ just missed at 9-7 and would have likely been in the SB had Marino not gotten hurt (and Oliver and Vincent and the list went on). Point is, even at the end we were still better than we were w JJ, Wanny and every loser after them.

A quick research job shows that in Shulas last 22 years in Miami 74 - 95,
He was 211 - 174 - 1 .63%
9 - 12 post season
(2-2 AFC Champ game, 0-2 SB)

the Dolphins franchise since
173 - 179 .49%
3 - 7 post season
Not advanicing past divisional round

Clearly the franchise was blessed early with Shula, thanks coach for the standard of excellence you set....lets all hope one day we can experience those days again.

Anyone here familiar with Phil Hendrie? He was a legend in south Florida in the 90s. The guy used to change up his voice into a different character all the time and troll callers. At the 34:57 mark, you'll hear Bokamper throw it back to Hendrie, aka Brad the Booger, a rabid Bills fan. If you listen a little further, the first call he takes, he's doing both voices. The caller who sounds like an old woman and Brad the Booger. classic

I remember the rumors had been spreading for a couple weeks about JJ possibly coming to Miami, as the Fins chased the wild-card spot.
We ended up in Buffalo where they stormed out of the gate for a 24-0 lead at halftime and never looked back.
That 340+ yards we gave up on the ground was Shula's final game.

Listening to the beginning of this shows that the Miami Dolphins was a class organization that had a head coach position that was very much high in demand. Look how far this organization has fallen :facepalm

John Offerdalh got hurt too and ended up on IR

That 95 season was miserable. Made playoffs but only cause of Marino and teams losing. That buffalo playoff game 340 plus given up on ground. Not Shula best work.

I don’t know what to think of his legacy. It was inexcusable he didn’t get dan more super bowl appearances. 86-89 were a complete waste. Had a great chance before buffalo rises up. God knows we couldn’t compete with buffalo. This board would have wanted Shula gone by the 88 season.

Yep the whole team was injured. It was bad. Had a good team. Even in 94 losing Kirby and Keith Byers was bad. But injuries don’t matter. Every team had them. Next man up.
Can’t believe Shula couldn’t win another game after being 9 and 2. Another failure.

I think Miami has had one playoff win since then, but I could be wrong.

Sad damn day for the Miami Dolphins. Don Shula was the greatest ever coach of an NFL team, and we were damn lucky to have him. It's hard to believe now, but when he was coach, we had the highest winning percentage of any sports team in any of the major sporting leagues in the US. He simply won. Every year. I think in his entire career he only had like 1 or 2 losing seasons … ever.

As Wade Phillips' famous dad Bum Phillips said about Don Shula, "he could take his 'uns and beat your' uns, then turn around and take your 'uns and beat his 'uns."

Don Shula is the G.O.A.T.

Don Shula resigned? I mean I was like 10 in 95 so I don't remember too much but wasn't he forced out?

The speculation was that he was forced out. Not sure if that was ever confirmed, but it was time. His 90s teams were always bridesmaids, never a bride. Never got a consistent enough running game to help Dan Marino throughout his entire career.

pretty simple -- everyone wanted JJ and Shula was widely viewed as "on the way down"
and Huizenga made a business decision...

Truth is, the vast majority of the fan base was on board with the move.

Everyone's career comes to an end.

Very few have the immense success of Mister Don Shula.
