I thought it'd be a good thread to start to allow everyone to explain their greatest Dolphins' football memories. I'm really excited for this thread because I'm a younger fan so I will get to read some of the stories from the glory days. Feel free to post the reasons we love our Fins so much! Here are some of mine.
1. 1994 AFC Championship Game vs. San Diego (Aqua's first viewing of a Fins game in it's entirety.)
I remember wearing my huge puffy Dolphins' jacket throughout the course of the game because it was freezing in my house. I watched with such intrigue and honestly couldn't what it feel like to witness a Dolphins' loss. I had just turned 7 years old so I was just begining to understand what football was all about. I was heart broken when the Fins lost, but I'm thankful because I have been hooked ever since that day.
2. 1999 AFC Wildcard Game @ Seattle
I live about 3 hours from Seattle so all of my family roots for the Seahawks. I had been running my mouth throughout the house the whole week and I couldn't wait to watch the game on the weekend. When the Dolphins fell behind, I began to grow sick to my stomach. I didn't want to listen to my brother all spring/summer long about how the Fins had lost to his Hawks. But, Dan wouldn't go out that day and led us back to a 4th quarter come from behind victory. I rejoiced and continued to let it be known how strong my passion was for the Fins. Unfortunetly, we got whacked the next week to Jacksonville and never got to see Dan play again.
3. 2001 AFC Wildcard Game vs. Indianapolis
I don't recall Dolphins' Stadium being that electric since that day. I remember exactly what I was doing throughout this entire game watching it from my Dad's living room. (My parents have been seperated since I was a little kid.) I thought we had a shot to win it all that year and I sported my Lamar Smith jersey with pride. Again, I witnessed the Fins fall behind early only to rally behind Lamar's 209 yards. When Vanderjagt linned up for the game winning field goal, I thought I was watching the final play of the Fins season. But, a light shinned down from above and the kicked was pushed wide and the game went to over time. Lamar continued his rabid pace and took the team on his back and took a long run to the house for the win. Forget kickers, he got us the win himself, that was a glorious day for all Fins fans. Again, this win was bitter sweet as the next week we were trounced by the Raiders.
4. Game 6 of the 2002 Season @ the Denver Broncos.
Ricky Williams was running wild, Jay Fiedler had been AWESOME in the the first 5 games and the defense was shuting teams down. We headed into Denver for a Sunday Night battle with fellow conference juggernaut, Broncos. A hard hitting game all night that saw Kenoit Kenedy illegally hit Chambers forcing him into a concussion and sidelining him. :tantrum:Sometime in the 2nd half, Jay Fiedler broke his thumb but it wasn't known. Finally, after what seemed like hours of back and forth play, Jason Elam hit what seemed to be the game winner. But with less then a minute left and just 1 timeout, Fiedler got us down to the Denver 35. Olindo Mare kicked a game winning 52 yarder to give the Dolphins an AFC best 5-1 record. I remember going to school the next morning looking at the NFL power rankings at ESPN.com and showing all my friends that the Fins graced the #1 position. Again, the win was bittersweet as we lost Fiedler and essentially the season to Ray Lucas. I'm still convinced we were going to the Super Bowl had Fiedler not been hurt.
2003 memories:
Thanksgiving @ Dallas. Fiedler to Chamber 3 times posting more than 40 points in a game Dieon Sanders said we wouldn't score a point in. It propelled us back into the playoff race and make the turkey taste great that day.
Sunday Night game vs. Washington. Fiedler started on the sideline in a must win game for the Fins. After Griese struggled all game (except an 80 yard TD to start the game,) Fiedler came in and the crowd went NUTS! He brought us back from 13 down and got a win for the good guys.
2004 memories:
Not a lot to be said here, everyone knows it's the Pats game. That was the 1 bright spot of that season.
2005 memories:
Opener vs. Denver. No one gave us a shot and we embarrassed Plummer and the Broncos. 34-10 and not one thing went right for the Denver offense. Man, we have the Broncos number.
Comeback game vs. the Bills. What a day by Chris Chambers. Team records 15 catches 238 yards and a game winning TD with 6 seconds to play. I still watch the 4th quarter on tape at least once a month.
2006 season:
Upsetting the Bears on their homefield once again ruining a bid for a perfect season. Yerimiah Bell comes into the lineup and the defense and Jason Taylor go nuts. 4 turnovers from the Chi-town offense and 3 TD passes from Harrington. What a game, 31-13 Dolphins
Well those are a few of my memories. Most of my memories are recent because I am now old enough to really understand the game and store it in my memory bank. I urge you to shed some light on us with your stories, especially the older fans. I would love to see some perspective on the olden days when I was just a wee little lad or not even alive.
