What if.....

Thoughts, post preseason game one.

The organization is looking to get Chad Henne the primary time this preseason and a lot of the fan reporting has been disatisfaction with how he has looked (including practice/training camp) so far.

Its been reported that Henne is not having a good camp and thats a problem even at this early juncture because if you're like me you assumed he would be lighting it up by now and looking like the heir apparent.

Sooooo....what if we do actually get a backup QB competition going between two guys who as it turns out are a big drop off in skill level from our number one who even though we all now love him, is himself no strong armed ball of fire with his own set of well documented limitations.

What if our QB backup spot ends up being weaker overall and not as well on schedule as we all thought. Or what if the year ends, these two backups having never distinguished themselves enough to hand over the job to anyone but Chad next year and we're faced with having to re-sign Chad to a huge contract. I have to admit that option does not really excite me.

Again I love Penningtons effort, focus, his intelligence, and precision, but in the end I want my Marino back. I always want my NFL team to be Quarterbacked by a stud QB who can make every single throw in the book, stand in when needed and take a hit, evade the rush plus lead in the locker room and on the field. Roethlisberger, Cutler, McNabb, Brees, Rivers, even Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco come to mind.

I see these physical tools in Henne, he fits the part.

Its only his third year but is he the guy or not ?

Because even though I love the element he brings ....Pat White is not.

i think i speak for everyone on this message board when i saw wtf? not only did that make almost no sense, but who keeps saying henne is not playing good. I watched the game last night from kickoff to the end, and what i saw was a poised, calm, efficient passer in chad henne playing behind a horrible second team line with backup receievers. He made one or two bad descisions but other then that he looked great.

Right now Penny >>> Henne >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> White.

Thats not changing anytime soon, our QB situation is just fine.

I've been somewhat hard on Henne, but I'll be the first to say in no way do I think he is a BUST. My thoughts are that he will be a serviceable QB but not a great QB, albeit one with a much better arm than Penny. Penny is a better QB though, imo.

That could change, but right now that's the way I see it.
