For those who didn't hear his Press Conference Tuesday Morning,

Coach Saban was asked about preseason strategy, and his response was he's not concerned about what the score is. His main goal is keeping guys healthy and giving guys opportunities to play. He says he will not leave guys in just to give us a chance to win a game that means nothing. He also said that people remember you did in the regular season, not preseason.

This is proof enough right here that the Preseason is just a bunch of practices for NFL teams to get down to the 53 man roster. And for those who feel we'll be bad just b/c of the way the Preseason is gone, Saban's comments should lay those feelings to rest.

How do you expect everyone to gain rhythm with each other when they play no more then one half of football?

i agree with that, nice post, we have no gameplan and were going in trying to buld off the last game, that what pre-season is to me....i think that come opening day we'll have a plan and use it effectivley, that why we dont need to get so dissapointed when we drop preseason games

Agreed. I would actually be concerned if winning in the preseason was a priority. I'd rather put different combinations of players in different situations, and try different things to see how it works. It's a time for evaluating and experimenting. Watching both games, I saw a lot of good. The score may not have shown it, but I was impressed.

He also mentioned in a previous PC that he wasnt going to put in plays that might give season opponents ideas of what they want to incorprate later. Saban is likely putting in some "vanilla" plays that require players to flat out perform. Relying on talent and ability instead of using the "system" to confuse.

The only time you see franchises getting hopped up for winning preseason games is when the team is going to suck in the regular season and the front office knows they need to move season tickets.

agreed, this is all just preparation for the season so he can come up for a gameplan for each game for these guys

Keep in mind this is also true about every other team. Example - New England and Indianapolis. Tom Brady didn't play a single snap, and Manning was sacked on his first play, so he sat the rest of the game.

As I've said before, it's only b/c these games are on TV and covered by the media that so much "emphasis" is put on Preseason. I thought this site was tougher when it came to criticism, but it's being overrun by trolls and the likes of other AFC East teams, if u know what I mean

I agree! The Colts are 0-2 and no one is worried about them...

But iin he same breath he also said he likes to win and hates to lose.

Hell, I hate to lose. Be it Madden '06, MVP Baseball '06, or Scrabble. But if he hated it SO much, you'd think he'd put his best players in long enough to win. But my point is that he doesn't want to win so much in the Preseason, but come Sept 11

I believe him when he says his goal is to evaluate players, and not necessarily to win.

However, if you are doing that, and you still win, that is even better.

Watching our backup defense give up so many big plays is not fun, and I think that's something to be concerned about, no matter what the score is. If they were playing up to par, then we might not have lost those games.

From the Jags game, it looks like:

our first string D is going to be very nice

our first string O still needs some work

We have worries in our defensive depth

Our offensive depth is doing pretty well.

I guess I am one of the few on this board who hates to lose a game , whether it be pre season or regular season.
