Adam Beasley had an article today in the Miami Herald in which he recaps some of the things Gase said in his press conference, but also adds his own take on things. Here is one thing that I found very interesting:

Things had gotten so bad on that side of the ball that Gase has inserted himself into the game-planning process and that the team decided it best for Jones, a two-time Pro Bowler, to platoon against the Jets.

“We’ve got to make some adjustments,” Gase said. “We’re not going to sit there and do the same things that we did the last two weeks that you guys have been [expletive] about. We let up 1,000 yards in two games. We’re not going to stay the same. We’re going to move around.”

We've previously heard that Gase was not involved in the defensive game-planning and that he was much more focused on the offensive side of the ball. Now Adam Beasley drops this nugget into his latest article. I wonder if this is just speculation on Beasley's part or if someone with the club told him this was the case.

Personally, I think this is a great development, if true. If Gase is going to be successful as the team's head coach, he needs to coach the entire team.

Glad to see this.......the defense played better this week.....obviously the Jets helped with that, but aside from Darnold completing more passes to us, but we also did a pretty good job against the run as well.

The basic idea that we can't keep doing what we have been doing is pretty easy to get behind.

Gase should have simply brought in a seasoned DC...like McVay and Pederson did.

Strangely enough, those two coaches and their systems have taken off while our "genius" heads the "Gang Who Can't Shoot Straight".

Maybe this means that Gase has taken his hands OFF of the defense and is letting Burke do it his own way.

This thing is so smelly I don’t know one end from the other anymore

If it took Adam Gase interjecting himself into the defense to get our future All-Pro first rounder on the field more, Burke needs to be fired. Putting your best players on the field is NFL 101. There is simply no good reason I can think of to do otherwise.

Maybe Gase should just playcall for the defense instead and we can get a seasoned offensive coordinator . Gase the guru sure as heck hasn’t gotten his offense to play close to the level the defense did Sunday ALL year.

Maybe you can update your avatar, title and signature? Sorry a bit of a pet peeve :hi:

So, barring a pretty strong 2nd half of the season, I could see Denver cutting ties with Joseph. I would not confuse Joseph with Wade Phillips, but I think he is better than Burke. I'd give a lot of thought to trying to bring him back if he were available.

I agree that this is good to hear Coach Gase increase his involvement with the defensive staff. Coach Gase is getting on the job training for being a head coach in this league. This is not a surprise. His first year he brought in a defensive coordinator with experience that he trusted. He focused on the offense with very little input into the defense. This is a very rational decision, and it worked out for him. His second year he had a lot of administrative issues and problems starting with the hurricane. During his third year, he has to inject himself into the defensive side of the ball. This is all good experience for him, and through all of it he is slightly above 500.

I am willing to wait to see what he accomplishes during his contract term of five years. He is just two and one half years into his contract.

Well also from Gase, he said "he wasn't aware that somethings were bothering Jones" so I would say yes, Gase is/has gotten more involved in the defense..

'Dude, the problem is missed assignments. Maybe simpler calls would help.,

Unless you have the horses to just physically beat the opponent, you can't run a "vanilla" scheme. You have to disguise, and vary coverages, or a good QB will march up and down the field.

I agree though, that being too tricky can lead to mistakes.

I seen him on the sidelines sitting on bench looking at paperwork while the defense was on field. He had no clue what was going on with the defense at that point. Damn well didn't look like someone focused on defense.
