Lot of talk about drafting Hawk in the first, but what do people think about Brooks? He's 6'4", 249 lbs. He's got good speed for a guy his size and should be well suited for any 3-4 or hybrid defensive scheme. I know everyone loves Zach (myself included), but his window is getting smaller. He could be one injury away from retirement. Crowder and Brooks would be downright scary.

Brooks in the first, Cutler in the second, Will Poole back? I haven't made up my mind about the draft at all, but I like the sound of that.

Any thoughts?

(And before anyone wastes their time typing it out, I understand Hawk is an OLB. I'm just not sure specific LB positions are as important in Saban's scheme as is overall size, speed, and talent.)

i don't think he's good enough for the top 10, so we'd be reaching to get him, unless we trade down to get more picks later on

I think it's gonna come down to Jimmy Williams, Rodrique Wright, Haloti Ngata, and Hawk.

Fair enough. NFLDraftCountdown has him right at 10 as of now, but obviously everything is going to change several times after the Senior Bowl, pro days, combine, etc . . .

His stock has fallen considerably because he has been hurt all year and has really struggled when he came back, putting on weight.

He's an archetypal Saban linebacker, but he should return to the Cavs for his senior year, get fit and return to his early form.

He should be suited for the 3-4 hybrid system since that it the type of defense Al Groh runs at Virginia.

Rodrique Wright's stock has fallen a bit this year. Once thought to be a top 10 pick is now a borderline first rounder.

The more household names like Wright and Gabe Watson have fallen some because of inconsistent play given their natural abilities. Thus, guys like Babatunde Oshinowo, Jesse Mahelona and Justin Harrell, along with Haloti Ngata are moving way up the boards, although Harrell is a JR.

It doesn't help that Watson has been in Carr's doghouse all year for laziness. He hasn't played as much as a top flight NT should. Draws a question to his character.

I tell you what, if we went with Hawk in the first and somehow Brooks fell to the 2nd, I think it would be very smart to swoop him up. Our linebackers for the future would be set with Brooks, Hawk, and Crowder. Ahhhh it would be nice.

Ahmad Brooks can drop to early 2nd round

Back to reality. Ahmad Brooks is a first rounder, enough said. The guy is the next Ray Lewis and if we as a team pass up on him for any other linebacker in the first we'll greatly regret it. Brooks is a beast in terms of tackling and has good range in coverage, example Virgina Tech game covering King goal to goal. Listen he can play, yes he's been dinged up this year but he has still played at a high level and that speaks volumes about his skill level. This is starting to remind me of the Derrick Johnson situation last year, I'd sure want to be the Kansas City of this year draft with a steal like that.
