From Jason Cole's Q&A:

Q.

Do you know what Chris Atkins status is? Has he recovered from the knee injury? It would be nice to have him on special teams.

A.

He's back with the team trying to play again. He is supposedly recovered. We'll see this weekend at the mini-camp.

Now that's interesting because last we were all hearing his career was pretty much over. If he comes back and makes the team and plays well that'll be amazing and instantly upgrades the special teams.

Thanks for that little snippet.

He always was regarded as a great special teamer, I hope he really is fully recovered.

Yeah i remember reading last year that he could possibly retire at the end of the year. I am glad to see him recovering from his injury.

Very glad to hear that Atkins has recovered (well supposedly). He's an excellent Special Teams player and I would love to see him be able to play for us this season.

Excellent news!!

He was one of the best special teams players in the league when we signed him, and he will be a huge addition.

There was lots of speculation going on about his status, so glad to see it "official" (sort of)

That is a pleasant surprise.I hope he fully recovers.

Just go to the Miami Herald dolphins section. Jason Cole's mugshot there is a link to his Q&A forum.

This is a very good thing.

Our team was ravaged my injuries last year and that was reflected on our special teams.

I was never a big Keith Armstrong fan, until last year. The job he did with our lack of depth, getting players off the street into the system and still having a good special teams unit was remarkable.

With Akins returning, as well as Morris playing a lotmore on special teams and the health of the team being better our special teams could steal a game or two for us.

Good point about Morris playing more ST- he was a great ST guy in Buffalo and its really why he was signed originally (Man- how sad is it that he ended up starting? Yikes)

I have to wait and see and I cannot get excited yet... I read the fine lines...He is trying to play again which means he will try hopefully..He is supposedly recovered, that's not helping either...I guess training camp will uncover the truth...

Was this the guy who was an ex body guard? Am I mixing him up with someone?
That was James Atkins, a DT we had in camp a couple of seasons ago. He was a backup for Tennessee and SF last I heard, but I think he is a street free agent now.

To be honest, I am a bit suprised. Coming back from a torn ACL is hard enough, coming back as a Saftey/Special Teamer with a tear as bad as he had(I obviously am not his doctor but I hear his ACL was actulay torn, like torn in half) is about as close to impossible as you can get. If he can come back from that and still be effective, I swear, he is my new favorite player. I tore my ACL in the worst possible way Freshmen year playing Sam Linebacker and strong saftey and now at 18 I am still in pain just walking, if I pivot at all on that knee the pain is escrusiating. Granted, I didn't get the hint the first time, came back about halfway through the next season and played defensive end for sophomore and junior year, I am pretty sure I tore some meniscus at some point to cause this. I am 18, doctors are saying I may need a new knee in several years:shakeno:
