What's everyone thoughts about possibly trading for Alex Boone of SF

He wants a lot of money and we'd have to give up a pick to trade him. I think it depends on whether or not what he's asking in compensation is reasonable (I doubt it if the 49ers won't do it) and whether or not he could be had for a pick nobody is going to miss. In short, pipe dream.

Nah. Talk LB's with me first.

Or DB's

Doubtful.

Team already has a lot of money, up coming money, and draft picks invested in the O-Line

- Fat Albert big contract
- Pouncey big contract coming up
- 1st Rounder James
- 2 3rd's Thomas/Turner who I expect to be the future LG/RG

How much does a Top 25 Guard cost you as well? 2nd Rounder plus fat contract?

Yeah LB is a Hugh need as well. If they could plug either hole via a trade I say do it already. LOL

How often to good players become available via a trade? Not very. And looking at last year wouldn't Miami been better off by trading for the LT position last year? Hell yeah.

The problem is that he wants a big new contract. I think most of us here agree that we don't want to have to invest most of our cash in our OL. That's not how you build a winner.

He's got 2 years left on his contract which is normally a red flag seeing he signed a 5-year deal 3 years ago but in his case he's getting backup money ($4 million over the next two seasons) and he's a very good starter. He's got a legit reason to hold out since he was a backup when he signed it. I highly doubt the 49ers would trade him since his replacement struggled in the first preseason game. He'll get his money from the 49ers.

He is not going anywhere. Once the season starts, he will want his paychecks.
He should play out his deal. Harbaugh is already moving on like he rightly should.

I'll say this: if the compensation he wants is reasonable and the 49ers are really just sticking it to him, I'd take a peek.

He would instantly improve the HECK out of our running game.

Alex Boone wasnt a first round pick, thus the Dolphins have no interest in him.

We are only 2 drafts away from the line being fixed, just give it time. By 2016 we should be good to go. Unless we have to replace someone, then naturally it will be delayed another year.

If last nights pre-season game was any inclination of how our o-line is going to be this year then we need to trade for him. Our run blocking was abysmal and that is being kind.
