Browns C Alex Mack exercised his opt-out clause, voiding the final three years of his contract, and is now a free agent.
As expected. Mack waited until the franchise-tag deadline passed and is now back on the market after signing a five-year, $42 million offer sheet with the Jaguars in April 2014 only to see the Browns match it. Look for the Jaguars to be back in on Mack, who's still just 30 years old. Returning to the Browns isn't out of the picture, but Mack is now one of the top free agents available. Mar 2 - 12:47 PM

Thoughts?

Too much money to invest with all the needs we have on offense, especially with the plethora of good guards available. Pass

He's going to command big big money. I feel bad for him ... obviously not because of the money ... but because he's been in Cleveland his entire career and now the only teams that will have money to pay him will be the other sucky teams who have a boat load of cash they have to spend to get to the cap thresh hold. Perhaps Oakland would be one of his better options if Mack wants to have the best of both worlds. Oakland has the cash and is up and coming with young talent. Perhaps Oakland might could reach the playoffs in one or two years.

As much as I would love to see Miami put Mack at center and move Pouncey to LG it is not going to happen. Miami can't afford him.

that right there is the thinking that has caused us to be mediocre for 20 years

So completely overspending on "Big name" free agents is what has helped the Dolphins in the past and what will save this team? Thanks, got it.

pouncey was below average at guard for us
This. Pouncey was mediocre at OG. Make would be an upgrade if you were cutting Pouncey and replacing him with mack, bu that seems unlikely. Plus Mack has got to be sick of losing and is probably going to want to go to a contender.

Maybe we could just trade Pouncey to Cleveland. What would you want from the Cleveland roster that they'd be willing to give up?

I'd love to have Mack. Pouncey is garbage. He does not play smart and is a huge reason why we've ranked at the bottom as an o-line unit for the past 4 years.

FinHeaven please...let's continue to ignore the guards and depth on the offensive line to sign a non-need position on the offensive line for big money, or jettison a solid player (Pouncey) for a marginal upgrade for even more money.

IMO, that's a very poor misconception based on a Hawaiian popularity contest.

Guess who makes the line calls? Guess who continues to have snap issues like he did in college? Guess who displays inconsistent technique which leads to sloppy blocking? Guess who makes poor second level reads? Guess who never makes it downfield to block for teammates?

We get the point so I'll stop, but Pouncey is a large part of the issue why we've had such a bad unit on the offensive line.

* Here's another problem w/ MP. The further in you move into the line (T to G to C) the faster your mental processing needs to be. Not his forte, let's just leave it at that.

I'd imagine Cleveland would go with a bargain pick, but if Miami wanted to get rid of Pouncey, I'm sure we could get a 5th for him.
