Both Seattle and Miami seem to have the same problem: Two very talented, expensive players whom neither team can move. Holmgren has all but said he would take a 2nd for Alexander and we want a 2nd for Surtain. Pro bowler for pro bowler. Seattle needs a lot of help in the secondary and we need a running back.

I realize that the main reason we are trading Surtain is acquire picks and get salary cap relief, but we don't seem to be succeeding at either. With Alexander we have a great, proven RB who still has plenty of tread on the tires.

Surtain simply can't stay with us this year. He would be a free agent next year and we will get nothing for him. We don't want to sign him to a long-term contract, because they don't want the cap hit from his position.

Alexander for Surtain is starting to make a lot more sense. We would still keep the #2 pick and may be able to trade down for more picks.

I like the Surtain for Edge deal more because Edge is a year younger. Both players are still adamant about playing for other teams and their trade value is starting to really dip. If Ricky tells Saban he doesn't want to play, I'm guessing Saban may look into the deal again.

Edge is a little younger but he has also had a major knee injury. That more than makes up for a year age difference. I'd take Alexander.

I appreciate what you're saying. I wouldn't mind Edge although he might be a bit more banged up than Alexander.

I'm one of those guys that doesn't factor Ricky into anything this year. I see him as an underweight, burned out druggie, who could care less about playing. I just can't imagine him having any impact on anything we do this year.

Wasnt Alexander drafted in 2000 and James in 1999?

If it's straight-up for Edge or Alexander I'd definitely do it. If the deal is finally done for Edge then we won't have to take a RB at #2. Thus Arizona will know for sure that we will take a QB or Braylon. Either Minnesota or Arizona will go for their prime target and trade with us. Then we'll either take the BPA at that spot other than RB or we'll trade down again and into the 13th overall range with the Texans who need Barron very badly. We should be sitting happy with a good pick there, most likely on D.

Edge is younger though.

Interesting spin validates this thread: it's not the kind of "wopuldn't it be cool if ..." stuff we saw repeated ad nauseum at the beginning of the free agency period. This is more an acknowledgement of the unhappy fact for both clubs that we're closing in on the draft, and if something's to be done about their unhappy players, it needs to be done soon.

Yes Edge was drafted before but he was one of those rare 20 yo draftees and Alevander was a 22 yo draftee.

Things don't always go according to plan and I believe Seattle or Indy is in the same boat we're in and the best move may be to save each other.

As for Alexander's age, I could care less. All is know is that he was 1 yard away last year from being the best RB in the entire league. That's good enough for me.

Alexander is a good back but honestly Ive never been that impressed with him, he gets the stats but I dont think he has the same kind of impact on a game that Edge has. Id classify Alexander as the same kind of back as Travis Henry except with more hype. They're both good but not great. Id rather have to pay Surtain or Edge a big contract rather then Alexander. I dont think Saban would do this trade, not with such great depth at RB in this draft.

When teams play the Seahawks the gameplan is stop Alexander and force them
to throw, where in Indy the gameplan is slow the passing game down,so Edge
gets the benifit of running against alot of nickle and dime coverages,so to
me Alexander is the better runner.

I like Alexander better, as well. The main reason I chose Alexander as the focus of this thread, versus James, is that Holmgren appears to be more motivated. I really don't think Tony Dungy wants to part with Edge. In fact, I don't think he wants to touch his offense and who can blame him?

Alexander for Surtain would not be the first choice for either team....draft picks are their first choice, but it may be the best solution they will find.
