One year ago the Dolphins had an 0-2 record following a depressing loss to Arizona and prospects were dim. Today, the Dolphins have an 0-2 record following a depressing (for different reasons) loss to Indianapolis and prospects are dim.

All was not lost to that 2008 team.

All is not lost to this 2009 team.

The Dolphins made some significant changes following the Arizona game a year ago. They benched safety Chris Crocker because he couldn't communicate well in the deep secondary and it was costing the Dolphins.

I'm sorry, but the Dolphins need to bench Gibril Wilson. His enormous contract lined with $8 million in guaranteed money notwithstanding, Wilson is a liability in the deep secondary. He does not tackle well. He always seems a step slow. And he never makes an important play.

The Dolphins could turn to veteran Renaldo Hill last year. Perhaps it's time to turn to youngster Tyrone Culver this year. Culver covers well and hasn't missed a lot of tackles that I can remember in the last year. He knows the calls. He knows the defense.

Make the change.

It might just be me but at this point I'd like to see if this team can come together somehow. If it doesn't work until the bye week it's time to do something and the possibilites are endless (in no particular order):
a) Henne for Pennington
b) Activate Turner
c) Activate Wake
d) Culver for Wilson

I think Armando brings up lots of good ideas but one thing I would like to see is: Jason Allen at safety for Wilson right now. I know he is a cornerback right now but if he is really worse than Wilson, we know we better get rid of him.

Edit: If Allen is worse than Wilson, we better get rid of both ;-)

The thing that makes this even more concievable is the fact that we can cut Wilson next yr and have no salary cap reprocussion. Who knows, maybe we'll wait until we're out of the playoff race to make that change too.

Great Post..Lets wait for the bye week to see exactly where we're at...

Sorry for what might appear as sabotaging this thread, but I've been looking for an in depth discussion on a few suggestions I'd promote myself. So with all respect I'd ask those Dolfans here with the desire to add anything more than a snide comment to interact with the following concepts:

1.) Platoon the QB's towards their strengths and the play set as we are in effect already doing this with the use of the Wildcat. (i.e. PW or Henne on first and second down or the Wildcat with Ronnie on first and secon down and PW at the QB/decoy/receiver spot in the Wildcat. And Penny for the 3rd down and short to moderate distances.... think efficiency)

2.) Play Wake on passing downs.

3.) Move the defense around pre-snap much much more to make the QB and line think more and therefore hesitate more.

4.) Stunt more on inside blitzes to flush the Mannings and Rivers of the NFL from the pocket. Make them flow to our pass rush specialists or throw on the run. Something Manning doesn't do to well.

5.) Blitz more in general to be on par with the teams that pass more in general. (see Ravens and gasp.... Jets against Pats last week)

6.) Replace Wilson with Culver and draft an ILB and nosetackle one and two next year.

Team Management will have to be dragged kicking and screaming to make that change. These guys are horrible at FA pickups.Doesnt look like they are very good at Offensive drafting as well. sort of reminds me of the Jimmy Johnson era.

Maybe Im the only one, but I've been pretty impressed with what Soliai has done this yr. Too many holes on this team to use a high pick on another NT.

I too am actually impressed with Solia but realize Fergie is on his last legs. Solia could be a bit unreliable with his weight and/or work ethic. McD probably has some potential on passing downs. Next years draft I thought was suppose to be well stocked at the NG position which would be why I would consider a second at the position. It could give us a Jake Long-like fixture at the spot.

Speaking of J. Long..... does it seem that he's spent an inordinate amount of time on his butt this year as opposed to last. It seems like he has lost some leg or glute strength to handle the bull rush from guys 40-50 lbs. less than him!
