Let’s face it, Ireland does not do all of this alone. There is no way he can watch every pro and college game and scout every player. This is where his scouting department comes into play. Let’s take a look at some of these guys.
* Brian Gaine – Director of Player Personnel was promoted this year. Brian followed Ireland here from Dallas in 2008.
* Chris Grier – Director of College Scouting, he joined the Dolphins during the Dave Wannstedt era as a scout and was promoted when Rick Spielman was Senior Vice-Pres of player personnel.
* Chris Shea – Assistant Director of Pro Scouting, was promoted to this position this year. Shea has been involved as a scout for the Dolphins for the past 2 years. Before that, was the Dolphins Player Personnel Coordinator for two years. Before joining the Dolphins, Chris worked for the Dallas Cowboys and also for the NFL as a law clerk where he reviewed all player contracts to ensure compliance with League policies.
Adam Engroff – Regional Scout – Joined the Dolphins in 1999 and became a college scout during the Rick Spielman/Wannstedt era.
* Ron Brockington – Regional Scout – Joined the Dolphins in 2005 during the Nick Saban era.
* Anthony Hunt – National Scout – Joined the Dolphins in 1994 and has been a college scout for the team for the last 12 years.
* Ron Labadie – Regional Scout - Ron has been with the team for 22 years. He was the Director of College scouting until 2007 when he was demoted by Cam Cameron/Randy Mueller. (Grier was promoted.) Currently, he covers Michigan and Ohio. (He was demoted after the 2007 draft…..you know the one where we drafted Ted Ginn Jr and his whole family?)
* Mike Murphy – Regional Scout – Followed Ireland here in 2008. Worked in Dallas before that.
* Joe Schoen – National Scout – Was hired by the Fins in 2008. Before that he worked as a scout for the Panthers. (Surprisingly, not the Cowboys.)
* Matt Winston – Regional Scout – Was hired in 2008. Surprisingly, he worked on Florida International University in 2007 and was a scouting intern for the Texans the year before that.
* Dwayne Joseph – Pro Scout -Hired by the Dolphins during the Wannstedt era, previously worked for the Bears while Wanny was there.
* Nate Sullivan – Pro Scout – Hired by the Dolphins in 1997 during the Jimmy Johnson era.

So what does all this mean? Well, not all of the scouting department are Ireland cronies who followed him and Parcells from Dallas. Nope…..some of them were brought in by good ‘ol Dave Wannstedt/Rick Spielman!

I’m not saying that all of them need to go. I sure some of this group are extremely talented at what they do. But year after year of drafting/free agent failures despite changes to the coach and GM, one starts to think maybe it is time to clean house, and not just at the top!

Pittsburgh and Baltimore rarely make wrong draft picks. I would be looking at offering their best scouts more money and better weather to come to Sth Florida. Should also consider our own CKParrothead, who appears to have good knowledge, good judgement (except on Brian Hartline... I remember lol) and great passion for our team.

Agreed. Honestly this board seems to make better picks than the fins. Most of us think we know what the Dolphins need, but some people are incredibly talented in judging how well college players will do in the NFL. I remember there was a select group of people on this board that wanted Patrick Willis over Quinn (which was by far the more popular pick. If those people ran scouting and picked the players we would be in much better shape. Although thats not saying much if we picked based on mock drafts we would probably be in better shape lol.
