I've been on youtube and other websites looking at videos of Jason Allen and the truth is that he doesn't have much to show. Half of the video is the play he got hurt on and the rest of the plays don't seem so impressive. He has a lot safe tackles, he hits guys low and I like that but I didn't see any interceptions or punishing hits or all that flashy stuff you want from a defensive back.
Now, I in no way question the coaching staff, especially because Saban played against Allen a few times back in LSU, but what is it about him that makes him worthy of a first round pick? I know he has the size, the athlecisim and leadership skills and work ethic but I haven't seen any play that makes my jaw drop.
Maybe you can guys can help me out here, either showing me some different videos or telling me about him or something. The guy sounds impressive on paper and I really haven't read anything bad about him but haven't seen enough of him yet. The holdout isn't helping.

i haven't seen any jaw dropping plays either but i remember in rookie camp people talking about how he could be on one side of the field and the play would go to the opposite side and he could cover the ground and change directions better than any of the other safetys the dolphins had. i forget who said it but it was someone who played w/ the dolphins and saw the safetys we had last year. plus he's big enough and fast enough to do pretty much anything the defense asks him. he can come up in the box, cover a tight end, cover a wideout. the possibilities are endless so he is a very valuable chess piece.

I guess I just feel like it's hypothetical. Like he has all the tools to be an amazing defensive back, but he hasn't done it yet.
And I think David Bowens said that.

it is all hypothetical till he plays. but i think u hit the nail on the hammer when u said saban has seen him a few times in games and he recruited him. that's all i need. saban has been pretty right on his sec pics so far.

Let me get this straight. You're unable to locate exciting highlights for Jason Allen on youtube, and therefore you need convincing as to why he's worthy of the #16 pick.

Have you considered that youtube is not an exhaustive library for all the highlights in the world? I don't mean to sound like a smartass, but do some research on NFL Draft sites. You can read all about Allen's strenghts there. Nfldraftcountdown.com is great.

i havent seen any either pretty shocking with the fact that nick drafted him he must have special HIDDEN talent
mad luv for nick

honestly, the speed and football smarts don't show up too much in highlight film often. He is a solid tackler and has good size.

Though I haven't checked that website I can assure you I've seen lots of different videos. Besides youtube I saw the yahoo draft page and even the Dolphins official site, both have pretty much the same video. Actually, all of the videos had the same few plays that's why I want to see more. Ironically, youtube was the only site to have something different.... the clip where he gets owned by Ronnie Brown.

after watching the same videos i noticed why some called him a "willing tackler".... but not necessarily a good tackler... I didn't see anything impressive either.

just wondering. could someone please answer for those of us who dont get to watch much college ball. does jason allen have the ability to be a feared nfl defensive back? i know hes versitile. some people love to point out how he got trucked by ronnie. that just shows me he had the heart to step up to ronnie even though he was probably certain of the outcome. but do you guys think hell be a feared safety?

He could definetley be one of the MOST feared corners.... but for a safety he's got good tackling skills but doesn't seem to be a "hitter" of any kind.

Fundamentals. Nick Saban isn't out to get super-stars, he's out to get good football players. Allen will be a guy who does everything he can to prevent the big play, which is what you mainly need a safety to do.
