It seems so. He's a pretty good player, but is a big cap responsibility. I'd much rather draft Glenn Dorsey or Frank Okam in the draft.

I think that if we bring Rogers in, it take away one of our necessities going into the draft. Instead of taking Dorsey with the first overall, we can now trade down and pick up Jake Long out of Michigan. That would help out our d-line and our o-line AND get us another pick/player.

That's a good point, but I just don't know. I'd rather spend less money in free agency and still draft a D-linemen first. The offensive tackle position is prety deep in this draft. We can get a good one in round two.

True. I just really liked what I saw when I watched Long play. I can't remember who it was against but I can tell you that he didn't give an inch on that left side all game. He would be an excellent addition to the line, IMO.

I guess I'm not real high on Rogers because of the rumors about him being lazy. However, he's a huge guy and if motivation isn't an issue, he would be a force on the D-line.
Another thing: I guess I'm kind of surprised at the number of fans who have already decided that Paul Soliai is a bust. From what I saw this past season if he continues to work on his technique and strength he'll probably be fine. Regardless, I don't think the debacle that was this past season is a fair measuring stick for any of our young players.

The thing about that is we'd be giving a rookie dlinemen a huge contract. It would be at least $30mil guaranteed. Rogers would actually be cheaper and he's a proven player. If we could somehow get Rogers, i'm all for it. Then maybe we pick Chris Long or trade down and won't have to worry about a DT. I wonder what the Lions would want for him and Roy Williams.

I couldn't agree more! Soliai's problems were mainly technique and hand placement. Here's why, he used to be an OT and was moved to DT his JR? (I believe it was) year in college. He's virtually a rookie at the position and to expect him to play at an All-Pro level in his rookie season is just ignorant, at best. Give him a year under a good D-Line coach and he'll be fine, IMHO.

The biggest reason we won't get him is like what other people have said; he takes plays off, he's lazy. Remember what Parcells said, that they want to find people who are so passionate about football that outside of their immediate family, it is the most important thing in their life? They want guys that live football. Rogers isnt one of those guys at all. If they want a true culture change, they'll stay away from Rogers.

I'm genuinely shocked to find someone who agrees with me on this. Seriously. I was beginning to think I was delusional or just unrealistically optimistic about the guy. Everyone else seems to be ready to call him a bust.
Thanks for the post.

How much difference would it be in cap space from Rogers or paying Dorsey 1st pick money???

not sure about that but dorsey is going to get about 40 million garuanteed and that scraes the **** out of me

After having Dan Wilkinson's laziness around, I'm not enthusiastic about Rogers, who's just a younger version.
