That Vernon Carey should be starting at guard. I know I may be a UM homer on this one, and I know he has held his own at LT, and he was moved to RT. Having watched him for along time now, I just think he is a natural guard, and I think James whether hurt or not is killing us. I would have to 2 big Mac's play the tackles and Hadnot and VC play guards. I don't know just me...

Yes i agree I've always saw Carey more of a Right Guard than as a Tackle.

same here. Sounds like they may have seen something and just want to try it out. Preseason is the right time.

I don't have any thoughts or opinions on that.

Before the 2004 draft I thought Vernon Carey's best position was RT and posted that on several sites. I'll stick with that assessment and then some. He is definitely not a LT and I'm shocked he was ever moved there. Safe prediction: if he returns to LT it will not last.

Very good effort at the position but the flaws in his technique and lack if ideal feet and athleticism have been painfully evident. Too many posters here have watched Carey's play at LT without projecting it down the road. In other words, it really doesn't matter if he holds his own in an exhibition game. You have to evaluate the way his footwork, skill and technique look and will they match up with the Freeneys? Not at all.

Guard is a questionmark. Carey played there as a senior but he was nicked or worse all season. Even in his best games I didn't think the production or instincts matched what he had shown at RT.

Let's solidify one position and keep Vernon at RT.

MacDougle has played awful this preseason! IMO he might be in danger of being cut. Saban has made it clear that you play it his way or you ride the pine (or plane seat home). This is Mac's last wake up call.

I do agree with you that Carey would make a better guard than tackle, however we need the 5 best to be out there. He's been playing very well and has experience at RT. Unless mac wakes up, Carey will have to stay at RT.

It ain't over yet, man. Anything is still possible until they can get it right.

Crown him Lord when he has accomplished something significant. So far the team that we have seen is plagued with the same issues as before.
Until our team can exorcise QB controversies, drive killing penalties and lapdance after parties, I'd withhold any proven label for Mr. Saban.

That's a good assessment...would you be for drafting a LT or giving Anthony Alabi a shot at LT next year if Carey stays at RT?
