Dennis Hickey can at least not be a TOTAL screw up like Jeff Ireland? I mean, Ireland's set the bar pretty low here. Most likely chances are that Hickey can at least be competent. It also helps that there aren't really too many holes to plug on our current roster... I would say our roster is AT LEAST 3/4 complete.

Please tell me where Jeff ireland was a total screw up.

Not like there is not an answer, I just dont think you know what it is.

With ireland we were a .500 is team.... not great hopefully we get better.... we could end up getting a lot worse though as well... the two yesr deal limits this though

While I was happy to see Ireland let go, he was far from a "TOTAL screw up" - he was actually the definition of mediocre, which is why he was able to stick around so long and keep our team at the same mediocre level for so long.

So coaching gets a slide. Tannehill must suck. I mean, everyone knows it all comes down to the QB anyways.

So Tannehill sucks and so do the dolphins everyone. And jeff wasnt Tannehill's pick, it was Shermans.

okie dokie.

but what if suddenly Tannehill goes 4500 yds and 30 TD's?

na. never happen. we suck. everyone sucks. this whole offseason is going to suck real bad.

I think you need a break.......

Ireland has a rep around here as if he was the worst GM to ever to step foot in Davie. Fact is, as sad as it may be, Ireland was the best GM the Dolphins have had in the past 15 years. He was better than Rick Spielman, Nick Saban, and Randy Mueler. Just compare the Ireland drafts to the previous GM drafts. Ireland looks like Ron Wolf by comparison. That being said, the bar was ABSURDLY low. Ireland proved to be mediocre at best as GM, thus all the 7-9 seasons. He wasn't great, but he also wasn't horrific. There is a very real possibility that Hickey will indeed underperform the mediocre Jeff Ireland.

Ireland was at least able to avoid total busts in the 1st round and could pick up starters in the later rounds. His major failings was spotting OL talent (other than 1st rounders) and the 2nd and 3rd rounds, which were disastrous. Other than that, his other major failing was his lack of people skills which turned several players off and didn't endear himself to the media.

I think some of you may be surprised to find that there can indeed be a step below from Ireland, and Hickey very well may be that.

But you see, how is Koa Misi and Brandon Marshall a disaster. I think words get used too heavily and often and then the repetive nature of it means it must be true.

Yes he screwed up some 2nd and 3rd rounders, but he was not a total disaster every year. I think he got pretty good the last 3 years. I am looking at Hickey's line of work, which is really the guy above hims' work, and I am not really enthused. I just pray he is like Ireland in that now that he is in charge, he gets better. If that is somewhat true. Because I dont know squat about the man's work.

Ireland is not here because he is an embarrassment. Then Incognito drama was the straw.

Hickey is only here on an interim basis.

Counterpoint: Jake Long and Vontae Davis may not be 'total busts' but neither player is with the team any longer. Fans really aren't sorry to see them gone, either. A first rounder who's gone in five years after disappointing everyone is a bust, IMO.

Vontae would still be here if not for Principal Joe. In any case, we recouped 2nd round value for him, not a total bust.

Long was more of an injury issue. Even so, if he had chosen to stay here, we would have been better off last season. Not a total bust.

Will people ever stop defending Ireland on this board? We never won anything with him. Get over it people.....I know you loved the girl but the girl ddn't love you back......you'll find someone else, just give it time!!

Ozzy rules!!

we didn't win anything with anyone on the coaching staff, front office, or in the locker room.

To me there is no untouchable or irreplaceable parts.

Off your list above who is the one and only constant? Under him we had two coaches: Sparano and Philbin and our locker room changed. But the lone constant is Ireland. Now you can argue that Sparano was a bad coach and maybe Philbin is too but it does not change the fact that Ireland was the GM throughout the changing times.

I think the set up we have deserves a chance now. I am not understanding all the doom's day predictions though. Nobody knows how Hickey will pan out. A total unknown. Which would be the same with the Farmers, Xanders and Gambles of the world.
