An August Pro Bowl in New York? Why Not?

The NFL might as well just get it over with and hold the Pro Bowl in New York City before the season starts.

Why not?
Apparently a player's performance during the season makes no difference in deciding who goes, so why don't we just hold the Pro Bowl as a post-preseason game in the city that controls the voting?

It would be a chance for the preseason best to fine-tune a bit more, and everyone else to rest up for the season, not to mention the anticipation it would build for the regular season.

New York, of course, would get to see the players it hand-selected play in its own backyard.
Anything is better than the current state of the Pro Bowl, an anticlimactic showdown between players with the biggest names or from the biggest markets a week after the biggest sporting event of the year.

Everything about the Pro Bowl is a mess, and this year's roster does nothing but drive the point home.
Case in point, Brett Favre. Brett Favre has made the Pro Bowl. Not Chad Pennington, not Phillip Rivers.
Brett Favre.

Why? Because he's Brett Favre. No other reason....

Looks like Miami fans are not the only ones upset about farves selection of Pennington.

I think he is being facetious. :)

NOBODY who is being honest would put Pennington (LOL) in over Favre. You wouldn't start him over Favre in your fantasy league, on your Madden '08, and sure as HELL wouldn't start him in a big game.

This year Pennington has out performed Favre. Say what you want, but that is the truth.
Why would noone put Pennington above Favre? I will tell you this, If the Jets offered Favre AND a draft pick for Pennington the Dolphins and thier fans would laugh. He is the most overpaid, overrated player in the league.

:lol::sidelol::clap::chuckle::rotfl1:
Whatever man....

Hey think Farve left this at the bingo hall:

ummm...its a popularity contest. I think Farve was popular before he came to NY.

I think its BS that Penny didn't get in too...but then again, did Ronnie really deserve the nod over Slaton? there are problems everywhere with the probowl...when we get more wins and become more of a contender, our players will become more popular and get more votes. Relax...worry more about the season, not a game you will barely watch.

Obviously your lack of intellect is only matched by your lack of knowledge about the NFL. Fairly typical for a Jets homer Neanderthal.
Pennington is outperforming Favre in almost every statistical category this year with a far inferior receiver corps. The pro bowl is supposed to be about rewarding the players who are the best during that particular season, not about asininely sending guys to Hawaii based on name and reputation.
At any rate, Rivers deserved it over Favre and Pennington, that is the real joke.

The AFC QBs should have been Peyton, Rivers, and Pennington. Cutler didn't really deserve to go, he threw too many picks.

Actually, I've started him over Cutler on many occasions this season.

Really?

Facts:

Favre v Pennington 2008

Favre: Comp%...Yds...TD...INT...Rate
............67.6....3052..21....17....86.5
Penny:...66.3....3218..14.....6....95.1

You tell me how Favre has "out preformed" Penny? Take in account that even though Favre has more attempts, Penny leads Favre in yards, and he is 11 ints shy of the "probowler"!

Want the most telling stat? When their team is BEHIND 1-8 points their ratings are:

Favre: 71.7

Penny: 104.6

Thats freaking clutch. Now take your Jets homerism and shove it.

Ridiculous babble from a Jets Fan, how surprising and untrue. I would start Pennington over Favre on my fantasy team if I wanted to win that week. His numbers are better. Of course how can you argue with the logic of you would not start him in Madden 08, because that is the true test of worth. Shouldn't you have an IQ greater than 12 to post on this site or in this case 4 to match Favre's number.

lol why do you care about the Pro Bowl. It's no secret, everybody knows its a popularity contest. We know Brett Favre shouldnt be there. But hey there have been players in years past for the Jets who have not gone that deserved to be there. Kerry Rhodes in 06 and 07 comes to mind.

Either way Pennington isnt the snub. It's Rivers in my opinion.

Favre doesn't deserve it? 20+ TD's on a 1st place, playoff team that was 4-12 a year ago, leading the 2nd highest (1 point behind Ari) scoring offense in the entire NFL? And he doesn't deserve it? Dude, do you even watch football?

I haven't seen one person yet (you're an amoeba so you don't count) that's thought Favre should be in the Pro Bowl and we ALL watch football.
