[h=2]Posted by Francis Pons[/h]Everyone is so excited about the Dolphins resurgent running game. So am I, as good running teams tend to display the physicality that is necessary for winning football. The Dolphins can now be a balanced football team, but if anyone believes that 200 yard rushing games or anything close to that is sustainable, you are setting yourself up for serious disappointment.

Now the Dolphins have put the rest of the NFL on notice. Now other teams are going to game plan to stop that potent running game and to some extent, they are going to be successful. This in turn will create opportunities in the passing game, but only if Adam Gase is not stubborn and inflexible.

We cannot call power runs repeatedly just to show our commitment to running the football when the opposition is shutting us down. Gase must be ready to attack eight in the box sets with an improving and potent passing game. He will need to anticipate other teams’ strategies and utilize that knowledge to stay one step ahead in preparation.

I am not advocating for the Dolphins to in any situation to give up on the running game. But for the Dolphins to continue to win, the passing game will have to improve and become more consistent and the running game will need to sustain a level of success.

Perfect example was the deep ball to Stills at the end of the Bills game. Tannehill said himself they were overplaying the run on that 3rd down so he had to get it downfield.

I agree though, we need to be able to take advantage of situations where teams are daring us to pass. No way Gase and Tannehill are NOT going over this after the last two weeks rushing breakout. Teams will be set up to stop it.

With Tannehill showing he can sling it deep, it would be nice to see him settle into something like a Troy Aikman type role - he was pretty much the perfect compliment to a solid running game.

That's also what I think. Teams that bite on the run are going to have to pay by hitting short, intermediate, and also deep passes (like the one to Stills). My hope is that the dink and dunk style plays begin to open up some. I've hated how defenses sit on those routes, so the potent running game will hopefully be part of the remedy to that so that we can hit some screens for chunk yards in addition to the deep passes. The deep passes by nature, however, are a low percentage success play that just don't scare opponents enough yet. Hopefully that can change too.

When someone is able to shut it down, then pass. Until then, keep giving Ajayi the rock.

The bills were getting 8 in the box last week. Specially in the 2nd half. You can't just go on top 40 times bacause the other team is trying to stop our run. Yes we need to do some PS and bootlegs and stuff like that but you can't lose the game and then look back and see Ajayi had 17 carries only. The other teams were always trying to stop Jordan but he still took more shots than anyone else. Right now Ajayi's our bread and butter and we need to use him.

Ozzy rules!!

My thoughts are the whole premise for this article is stupid. Gase started the season wanting to pass, now he's switched gear to more of a ground game...does that seem like a guy who's stubborn and inflexible? At no point in Gase's short tenure as head coach of the Dolphins has he shown himself to be stubborn or inflexible except for maybe the first 3 quarters of the Seattle game when he said Tannehill was telling him to run certain plays and he kept putting it off until the 4th when Miami scored the go-ahead TD (which was short lived). And he said it would never happen again. So that's the extent of his stubbornness.

I don't think anyone wants to get away from the run - Ds need to see enough of both they can't sell out to either. UNLESS, one of them is consistently gashing the D and, even then, both have to be used. I think most here are saying use the pass to keep the D from TOTALLY committing to the run. Maybe it will be 60/40 pass, maybe 60/40 run, I don't know. This may be a game where it would be interesting to see Stills/Grant as WRs. I'd love to see the way the D reacts.

I am more interested to see what happens with the defense. Now that we have been better against the run, they will start to attack the weak secondary IMO. Maybe not the Jets bc whoever is at Qb for them sucks..But starting with San Diego I expect teams to attack through the air.

As bad as Ryan Fitzpatrick can be, he was decent enough for them to win their last game. A quick glance at last season shows that in recent history, he passed for decent. I will not assume victory, since that guy is perfectly capable of looking decent against one of the league's weaker secondaries. If Reshad Jones were not injured, I'd feel differently, but just knowing that teams will want to throw on us as a result of our new found offensive consistency is enough to be concerned about.

First three plays against the Jets should be 3 intermediate to deep shots down the field to either Stills, or Parker whoever is single covered. If we can connect on one of those passes then it will open up the game. Strike with the pass early and then pound the rock. After that a balanced attack with whatever is working best.

If you believe Fitz sucks you are crazy. This game will come down to the last possession or 2 just like the last two weeks even though statistically the fins have completely dominated the game. This team is learning to win, too many stupid penalties. I mean really stupid, the unsportsmanlike penalties have to stop. Too me I see way to many players thinking about themselves not winning the game. I love the way Ajayi has run the last two weeks, love it! But after a 50+ yard run in the 4th quarter does he have to run another 30 yards celebrating? Then of course he has to come out because he is tired and misses then next few downs and we have to punt. stupid stupid stupid.

This game is an important moment for Gase because this is usually the type of game we lose.

- Have a bit of a hotstreak going
- Divisional game
- On the cusp of playoff relevance
