thanks for that. I'm not sure what to do with JT. I want to keep him, but I also understand that we'll get less value for him next offseason.

JT is still our best player + Parcells says he wants to win right away = JT stays a Dolphin

Best case he's traded this off-season for a draft pick.

Worst case he plays another season, doesn't play particularly well ending up with like 4 sacks and we outright cut him, getting nothing for for him.

Many people may think best case would be seeing him ride off into the sunset, but at this point it's a bigger benefit for the organization if we trade him for a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick.

Your article is fine and everything, but why do people still have the misconception that whatever defense we run here has anything to do with JT staying or leaving? No one knows what defense we'll run as every coach and member of our FO has stated we're going to run whatever defense fits the players we have. They're still evaluating our roster, and JT can, conceivably, fit in either the 3-4 or 4-3, so the defense matters little at this point. JT's age, combined with his salary, combined with the fact that he could yield some decent draft compensation in a trade is really the only deciding factor(s) pointing towards him staying or leaving, as Parcells has already stated that JT is the type of player he wants on this team.

Well for one, they just cut our only true middle linebacker. Secondly, we have two prototypical 3-4 linebackers (Porter and Crowder) and two prototypical defensive ends (Wright and Holliday) on the roster.

And three, Parcells and Sporano have always fielded a 3-4. They can say what they want, but IMO the writing is on the wall.

Personally, I think we will/should keep him. He is the heart and soul not only of the defense, but of the team. We have no other leaders on this team. Zach is gone! Chambers Gone!

This is an entirely different team, i think the Dolphins had 30 new players playing last year or something? This isn't the Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas led Dolphins of 1995-2003 with familiar faces, perennial contenders. Jason Taylor may be a "leader" but he's not the "leader" of this team, this all new team, this team that is trying to find a new identity. Nobody is a staple of this team. Taylor should be traded for the value he commands right now.

They ran a 3-4 in Dallas because of the personnel they had. I realize Parcells has operated a lot in the 3-4 over the years, but he's not going to do it here without the personnel. I mean, I could point to the fact that we cut Traylor, and Soliai didn't really show that he could man the NT position, and both of those factors would, in fact, speak to NOT running the 3-4, moreso than Crowder and JP leading one to believe we will run a 3-4. Also, Holliday and Wright are both better at DT. It's not like they can switch on the fly as effective as Kevin Carter could.

I think whether we draft Dorsey or Chris Long would give you a better indication as to what defense we end up running over any roster moves we make before the draft, barring some trade out of left field.

I think it's pretty obvious what's going to happen. unless someone makes an offer for JT we can't refuse. We are keeping him, or else he'd already be gone now. And we're keeping him because the #1 pick is going to be Chris Long and they'll want JT to mentor. Parcells likes D-linemen, we need them, all other big salary players have been cut so far but JT. Seems like a no-brainer.
