Former Louisiana Tech & BYU coach - Gary Crowton.

GC is the current OC at the University of Oregon

He can get carried away w/ too much passing and wild formations but like Mularkey understands the need for balance and could work w/ Nick.

He is not an egomaniac like Martz.

How can he get carried away with too much passing and understand the need for balance?

Hey, KB since you have a lot of info into other coaches and players, was wondering if you know of any other OC that would be a good fit for Miami. I just can't seem to get too excited about Mularky and was hoping some one else would emerge that hasn't been mentioned yet. I really hope who ever gets the job will run a lot more in the redzone. I like what Linehan did but was frustrated on short yardage playes where he always passed. With Ricky and Ronnie they need more carries in the redzone.

Well, it all depends on whether or not you want someone that is an experienced coordinator or someone that may be considered an up and coming coach that has no coordinating experience.

I personaly feel that Jason Garrett is a great candidate, but it doesn't look like Nick Saban feels he is ready. Jason Garrett is extremely smart though, and he has playing experience in some good offenses. I like the fact that he played in Norv Turner's and Ernie Zampese's offense that stressed balance with a power running attack and a vertical passing attack. I also like the fact that he played in Jim Fassel's offense. Jim Fassel has a great understanding of the passing game, and he wanted to hire Jason Garrett onto his Giants staff as a coach if he couldn't make it as a player. Jason Garrett also played for Chan Gailey in Dallas, and he now has one year in Scott Linehan's system. I believe that is a nice blend of coaching styles, and Jason Garrett could blend them together and come up with a system that fits the players he has, is balanced, and is effective in the passing game.

For continuity purposes, it would be ideal to get a guy that runs the same system or a similar system to what Scott Linehan runs. Outside of Jason Garrett, I don't really see anyone on the current coaching staff that screams potential offensive coordinator to me. I've mentioned Charlie Baggett in the past, but I'm completely unsure of his ability to come up with a gameplan and call plays, adjusting on the fly to what the defense gives him.

One team runs a similar offensive system though, and that is the Cincinnati Bengals. Their quarterbacks coach, Ken Zampese, would be a great candidate to be an offensive coordinator. Ken Zampese has spent three years working with Bob Bratkowski in this single back, three wide, h-back, vertical passing offense, and he also worked for three years in St. Louis with Mike Martz. Ken is the son of Ernie Zampese. I believe that Ken would bring a nice blend of the current single back style and his father's offense, which is the same base offense that Mike Martz runs.
