Seasoned Veteran
First off I'm not complaining, whinning or hating etc...... I'm just curious when looking at both P.Turner and J.Cook I see them in the same role for our offense except J.Cook looks far superior. I realize Cook is a TE but he could easily slide out to WR as he did early in College.
We selected P.Turner WR in the 3rd round with the 87th pick, he's 6'5 223lbs 4.63/40. Good hands, nice routes and possible red zone threat.
Why wouldn't we take J.Cook TE who was still available? (89th pick) He's 6'5 243lbs runs a 4.49/40 also has good hands and makes a solid red zone threat. He also had a 41 inch vert which at that size no CB in the NFL would be able to cover the fade to him in the end zone.
I'm just wondering if there would be a reason that I do not see or realize why Turner is a better selection then Cook when they basically would preform the same role for our offense.
J.Cook TE
Cook is a superior athlete with freakish ability. He has a great frame and a strong build that make him very explosive. He gets a quick release off the line, finds openings over the middle and also has the second gear to challenge down field. He has strong hands and is dangerous after the catch. He has a knack for the acrobatic and is tough to game plan against. - Chris Steuber, Scout.co
Cook ran the second-fastest 40 for tight ends at the NFL Combine this decade (Vernon Davis). He also had the top vertical (41 inches) and broad jump (10-3). Cook undoubtedly raised his stock, though he tweaked his hamstring and couldn't participate in the drills. - Walterfootball
Cook is an absolute freak physically. He has very good size, with the room to add more weight to his frame. He is a tremendous athlete, with excellent quickness, acceleration, and breakaway speed. These physical gifts allow Cook to be a force as a receiver. His potential as a game changing receiving TE is special. He not only can be a dependable target underneath, but he has the rare ability to get down the field and out run defenders to make big plays. - Footballfutures
Does Turner have some greater upside or am I way out of line questioning this?
