I just emailed Alex:

Hi Alex, love your column and generally agree with your point of view. I'll get right to the point. Why hasn't Wannestadt shown the nerve to make tough decisions like benching Ray Lucas? It's painfully obvious that Lucas can't get the job done. I realize it's not all his fault but he just isn't playing well and is hurting the offense. If the Jets' defenders could have caught at all they would have had 4 INTS. I like Wannestadt but am beginning to lose respect for him. Does he not trust Rosenfels? Why do you think he is reluctant to start Sage?

Let's hope he answers!

Come on guys. From what I understand Sage has absolutely no NFL experience and that's why Wanns is not starting him. Please tell me that you are not basing this on what we heard/read/saw on TV about Sage in the preseason with Wash? Because Lucas looked great too. I think we need to go w/Ray until Jay's back.

It would help if the defense would take the ball away a little more and everyone else picked it up. Remember 1999, Damon Huard subbing for Dan and he went 5-2 and we were winning ugly (10-6, 13-7, etccc) but winning. We were doing it w/defense and just enough offense. You can't tell me that the 1999 team was more talented than this one. Yes, Lucas has not played well but the burden is not his alone to carry. Those around him have not exactly taken up the slack either.

I disagree, but I guess you already knew that. Lucas has performed so poorly that I honestly feel Rosenfels could do no worse. If I recall, Marc Bulger didn't have any NFL experience either. We gave up a 4th rounder for this guy, you don't trade 4th rounders for scrubs. Let's see what he can do!!

The thing is the offence is turning it over like crazy with Ray at the helm and not matter how well our D plays we cant win with that...Turnovers have been killing us and they will continue as long as Ray charles the turnover machine is at the helm...

:monkey: Ray and give Sage a chance he cant do much worse...

LC, I wasn't aware that it was 4th round. Are you sure it wasn't a late(5-7) thing? But you have to agree regarding those around him. If he's played bad, the others haven't exactly stepped up to fill the void. While IMO, the defense has played well enough as far as not allowing points to the oppostion, where are the defensive turnovers that Maimi thrives on? Where is the OL? Where are the game breaking plays on speacial teams?

I am positive we traded next year's 4th rounder for him.

I agree that we are not helping Lucas but the bottom line is Lucas is not making plays (unless you count 4-hopping passes and throwing to the opposing team as making plays) The line is not helping him at all but they weren't helping Fiedler either.

Our defense is playing solid and they aren't creating turnovers because the other team is playing more conservative than we are! Why? CAUSE RAY LUCAS IS NOT A THREAT!!

I think we traded the 4th rounder for Jay Williams, or another D-Lineman from Carolina. And a 7th rounder for Sage. Not 100% sure.

I stand corrected. I got confused. Washington drafted Rosenfels in the 4th round. I have no idea what we gave for him. Vegas Phin is proably right, a 7th rounder.

We gave a 7th round pick that becomes a 5th rounder (I think) if he takes 50% of our snaps this year.
