"He's a real smart football player -- man, he showed that once he walked in," Jordan said. "He's willing to work, he's one of the guys that's been doing everything you ask of him. For a rookie, being only his first few weeks, he's been going above and beyond. I feel like he's going to have a hellova career."He was once thought of as a third-round pick, but a 5.2 second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, a positive marijuana test and perceived character issues combined to plummet his stock and cause the rookie defensive tackle to go undrafted. Johnson said he has no regrets because he learned a "lesson in life."
And despite the bumpy path he took to Miami, Johnson said he never lost faith in his ability to make an impact on an NFL roster because he is used to overcoming adversity.
"
I had some off the field issues. Some people say I had character issues, but, at the end of the day, the Lord gave me an opportunity to be here," Johnson said. "And I'm just taking this opportunity and running with it. So yeah I had some setbacks, but I'm coming back for a major comeback."
Fortunately for Johnson, it doesn't matter how you performed in college, if your 40 time is up to par or what round you were drafted in when players step between the white lines.
"I think the great thing about is, now that we're here it doesn't matter," said Landry, when asked what round talent Johnson had. "It doesn't matter because every guy has to earn his keep. Now it's his job to come out here like the rest of us guys and earn our jobs."
