Prior to camp a lot of people were saying Johnson should win the fourth defensive tackle spot easily, but since camp has started it seems like Francis has pulled back ahead. Any updated early projections concerning which player makes the final 53-man roster. I can't see this team keeping five tackles. It also sounds like Fede is closing ground on Shelby for the fourth defensive end spot.

The d line is interesting I think even our back ups could start for another team. Especially Mitchel and jordan. Fede will beat out shelby. While Francis beats out Johnson. That's just how I see it

The Dolphins might be able to keep Shelby and Fede on the 53-man roster while Jordan is serving his suspension, but will likely have to make a choice after week 4.

9DL will be kept especially minus Jordan for the first four weeks (Wake, OV, Starks, Mitchell, Odrick, Shelby, Francis, Fede, Johnson) PS Johnson or Fede when Jordan comes back. Team likes Shelby too much not to keep him on the 53.

I don't buy any fede is closing on Shelby stuff...Shelby's been the most consistent playing the run end we have...sets the edge well in the run game and strings things out...and supposedly he's got a little more burst and closing speed this year which should help with the pass rush...dirt cheap too

I do think fedes got a shot though...you can never have enough pass rushers if this kids showing raw but high end potential pass rush tools don't cut it...

Fede should be able to go on the practice squad without much risk. I wouldn't be able to say the same about Anthony Johnson. Dline depth is huge, and so many teams don't have it.

We have a ton of D-line talent and we can't keep them all. I think AJ Francis makes the roster and has pretty good upside. He appears to have improved significantly and he looks Soliai huge (6'5" 330 lbs). I can't see them cutting Shelby, although the reports re Fede are consistently good. Fede has the bigger upside but Shelby is smart, discipled and reliable. I think that we try to find a way to keep both - invariably someone gets injured and the surplus disipates.
Anthony Johnson probably goes on the Practice Squad, but it seems like he's worthy of a roster spot. There is another undrafted guy named Garrison Smith from Georgia Bulldogs, who's also worthy of being on the Practice Squad.

Bro I respectfully disagree that Fede will beat out Shelby. Shelby is going to have a very good year and now get more playing time with Dion out.

I know the likelihood is you and DD are right. Shelby is also a vet and philbin brings rookies along slowly. I just like what I hear about Fede

I like what I have read about Fede as well but I have seen Shelby come along and I think he is ready to take the next step. I am not hating on Fede they are just at a different level in there careers as far as what they can bring to the game.

The Johnson and Francis battle I believe will be a very good one to watch.

I'm not letting my love of LSU blind me on the Francis/Johnson battle. I think Francis has that one. I can't believe how big he got.
