OK, I think it's 99% agreed that Culpepper is the starter if both QB's are fully healthy to start the season. And the job is definitely Culpepper's to lose.

But what if the very likely scenario of Culpepper not being able to start the season happens, and Harrington plays excellent for the Dolphins while replacing him.

Or if Culpeppeer isn't ready to go until after the bye week, but by then, we are already 5-2, 6-1, or even 7-0. Is it a no-brainer that we replace Harrington with Culpepper, or do we leave Harrington in as the starter as long as we are winning?

There may also be the mindset that if we are winning, then there is no reason to rush Culpepper back from his injury, meaning we leave Harrington in.

Anways, I just wanted to know everyone's thoughts on whether there's any chance of a QB controversy happening this year. Or what scenarios should Harrington be left in as the starter, and when should he be moved back to 2nd string and let Culpepper have the starts?

And yes, I know that we haven't signed Harrington yet!

If we find a franchise QB and can trade the other, I'm for it!!

Wow, we went from worrying about getting a backup qb to a qb controversy already. Why don't at least wait to we see one of these guys play before worrying about some problem that doesn't exist.

I agree! (not that my opinion means anything):dolphins:

Well a lot depends on the way Harrington is playing as well as the Dolphin's record at the time. Remember our QB during the Wanny years(I have forgotten his name that is the first step toward healing :chuckle: ) had a great record but the offense was terrible. You bring Culpepper in to be something special to control the game and the develop explosiveness. Just cant expect a simple change of scene will do that for Harrington.

In terms of a QB controversy, alot of times that is due to the indescision of a Head Coach. Remember when Tom Brady took over for Drew, there was no controversy, Saban will control that situation and not let it get the media or even us fans dictate a controversy.

It is not out of the question and has happened before. Who would have thought a inexperienced 6th round QB who got replaced in college would take over a Patriots team that had perrenial Pro Bowl QB Drew Bledsoe at the helm? Here it would be a 3rd overall pick over a QB coming off a major knee injury. Don't get me wrong, most likely there won't be a debate, but if Harrington gets a chance and is impressive it is possible there will be some controversy. Stranger things have happened.

Of course strange things can happen, but not that strange, Culpepper is far better than Bledsoe and unexperienced Brady is far bettet than unexperienced Harrington. If Joey finally comes here, he will be ONLY a backup, he already has proven he's not a starter, no room for controversy.

Who cares?

I mean really, were looking to create problems here that don't even need be discussed.

If both are playing well enough for there to be a potential controversy then it's a good thing.

Coaches, if they have a handle on their team will be able to control situations like these without problem IMO.

Okay since were talking QB's...does this mean if the trade for Harrington does go through, do we not draft Omar Jacobs.....

Harrington knows he's here as the backup QB.

Same way Morrell knew he was backing up Griese.

If Harington gets a few starts and plays light out good, he still knows that in Miami he's the backup. The only way there could be a controvesy would be if DC plays badly for an extended period, Harrington plays brilliantly and Saban doesn't start the QB that gives him the best chance of winning.

Just like last year Frerotte was the starter, no matter how well Sage played.

is it possible? sure. likely? yet to be seen. as was posted above we went 7-1 with Damon Huard who certainly wasnt the savior of the team. and when Marino came back, he came in and played (we also did finish the season 2-6 and backed into the playoffs). but i think that you roll with who is getting you wins. i dont anticipate Harrington playing for more than 3 weeks, which should be just enough to show if he is either going to be our long term back up, or is going to be enough to get another team interested in trading for him.

I hope we don't use the pick on him.

We have other areas of need and I'm not sold on Jacobs personally.

well... this will be great because DC would try his best to recover and come back in his best health state.. i mean bringing a QB like Joey... I don't think that joey can play better than DC can so i don't think that it will creat some kind of controversy. Still we'll get a good backup in case (pray to all gods possible) Daunte knee stops working. I think it would be good and at least the few starting weeks untill c-pep comes back will be well covered by Joey.
