Bob Griese's No. 12 jersey became the first Dolphins number to be retired on May 6, 1982, in ceremonies at the Dolphins' annual awards banquet. Heading into the 1997 season, his No. 12 is the only Dolphins number to be honored in that fashion.

No other player in the history of the Dolphins, either before or after Griese, wore No. 12 in regular season play.

Griese was further recognized when he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990.

No because if I am not mistaken Dan's 13 is retired also. Unless he got it okayed by Griese and dolphins. That could be the only explanation I can think of. Otherwise I thought he was going to wear 11.
