In 2008, the 6-foot-3, 250-pound Crowder had a career-high 114 tackles during his first season calling plays from his inside linebacking position.
But he didn't have a sack and has just 1 1/2 in four seasons. He has zero interceptions.
Crowder is determined to change those numbers.
"They gave me the reins. I'm a three-down 'backer," he said. "I'm out there the whole game. Now it's time for me to step up."
The Dolphins also would like the talkative Crowder to shut up from time to time. The Ryan dust-up is the latest example.
Crowder said the team didn't like him lobbying for Jason Taylor's return.
"They said I'm not a GM, I'm a linebacker, so just go out there and tackle people and quit talking," Crowder said
