In 1999 Huard was the backup for the Miami Dolphins, and when Dan Marino got hurt, he stepped in and started five games in Marino's place. Miami lost only once with Huard under center, and he played so well that what would once have been unthinkable -- Miami fans wanting Marino to stay on the bench -- actually happened. Although coach Jimmy Johnson gave Marino the job back when he returned to health, many Dolphin fans chanted Huard's name.
The next year Marino retired and Huard seemed like his heir apparent, but new Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt gave Jay Fiedler the starting job. That move (which Marino publicly criticized) started in motion Huard's long journey through NFL backup-ville. From 2001 to 2005, Huard spent five seasons on NFL rosters. He threw one pass. If not for Green's Week 1 concussion, the 33-year-old Huard most likely would have faded into obscurity without ever getting a chance as an NFL starter.

Damon Huard, IMO, is a solid backup. I really don't see him as a quality starter in this league. Sure he's doing well in KC, but remember that AJ Feeley went 4-1(?) as a starter in Philly. Charlie Batch and Tommy Maddox were/are good backups too, but just not starting material.

Yea I am not sure either way what will happen with Huard. I had just forgotten all about Huard lighting it up here and fans wanting him to replace Marino. The article got me wondering why we didn't at least give him a chance.

Actually we did, he really stunk it up in the 2000 preseason. He didn't move the ball or score any points and just really stunk it up.

Neither did Daunte and we are putting all our chips on him at this point. I don't really think pre season is giving a guy a chance I actually meant it would be interesting to see what he could do with a full season. I mean if you've got Marino publicly criticizing Wanny for not making Huard the starter and now you see Huard lighting it up in KC, you really have to wonder what might have happened had he become our starting QB.

And Huard had that game-winning touchdown pass at the end of the playoff game against the Colts...I always wondered why he didn't become the starter either.

Two things here, again just my opinion:D

1) I really don't think Marino like Wanny from the begining + Damon was a Marino boy. Dave was the one that told Marino, he's done.

2)As far as CP, the Dolphins invested a lot into him. Teams tend to play or give "higher" paying or investments more time.

Which game?

anyone remember that time bobby showed up at halftime and the muddogs won the bourbon bowl?

I live here in Kansas City..
Damon is doing good, Surtain is doing good...
Even cast-off Kyle Turley is a starter on a productive O-line...

I recall that stretch of games. I remember Huard doing a solid job as a backup, but I sure don't recall him "lighting it up".

I remember Scott Mitchell playing very well as a backup too, and we all know how that worked out.

I've been to Arrowhead a good 20-25 times. I used to live in Wichita. Arrowhead is a great place to watch a game. I work with a guy thats a Chiefs fan and when Treen Green went down, I told him not to worry. Damon Huard will do just fine.

Scott Mitchell ate his way out of the league. Last time I heard of him, (several years ago), Baltimore invited him to camp and he showed up at 280lbs. He could have been a good QB.

Good read, but keep in mind, this is KC's dominant OL and they have great options. That OL maybe even be good enough to keep a confused Culpepper upright long enough for him to finally make a throw. But then, he played well here subbing for Marino. And before one says AJ Feeley, keep in mind Feeley's 4-1 record was with a different team with different strengths and weaknesses then coming in here. Huard was 5-1 with a same team. I'm not saying Huard over Culpepper/Harrington, but I prefer Huard over say Fiedler and Lucas.

Huard didn't throw a game winning pass against the Colts in a playoff game, he did that in a regular season game. He threw it to the big O, Orande!!
