Two parts bourbon, mint, sugar.

Thanks S126....I got the Bourbon and the sugar....I wonder if an old candy cane will work for a mint. :D

I've doubted every recent Derby/Preakness winner but this colt is the real thing. No evidence of vulnerability, such as an inexplicable defeat early in his career. Undefeated means a great deal in this case. Tons of versatility as evidenced by the wins on grass. His pedigree is best suited to classic distance but he has points in all five categories and won't wobble a 28 second final quarter in the Belmont like Smarty did. The push button running style is ideal. He is incredibly well rested compared to the typical Derby horse and today's effort shouldn't take much out of him, in fact the opposite.

Brother Derek was routed wide the entire trip today and might challenge at Pimlico if the advantages are reversed in his favor, but I doubt it will be enough. Then the Belmont will be a very short field, and unless he gets an inexplicable poor ride or a fluke setback like Spectacular Bid's safety pin, we're looking at the second undefeated Triple Crown winner. As a huge Seattle Slew fan, I'm sure I'll cringe at the comparisons but Barbaro is legit and it's time the sport found a super horse.

As usual, good thing I bet one-one-one matchups not the parimutuels. My top picks didn't hit the board but at least they did better than most of the horses I had them matched up against.

The best triple crown contender I ever saw was Point Given.

He got screwed over by Gary Stevens in the Derby..but had he gotten a better ride..he gets first run on Congaree and not Monarchos...

Point Given is the best 3 year old I have ever seen..(too young for Slew, Secretariat, Affirmed)

That's very good handicapping. Point Given was the most dominant 3 year old in recent memory. I don't remember the ride as well as you do other than he was inexplicably wide and not a factor.

Vindication was a terrific 2 year old a few years ago and I thought he had a great shot at the Triple Crown, but he had a sensory ligament injury, or something like that, early as a 3 year old and never raced again. Bob Baffert was the trainer and he is still sick about it, according to reports.

The only thing that makes me hesitate on Barbaro winning the Triple Crown is he wasn't a dominant superstar as a 2 year old. He won some rather obscure turf races. Secretariat was Horse of the Year at 2, Slew was dominant including a 1:34 2/5 mile in the Champagne Stakes to win 2 year old champ, and Affirmed defeated Alydar 4 of 6 times as 2 year olds, winning division honors. I've always believed the next Triple Crown hero would be a budding legend late in his 2 year old campaign.

That was HANK GOLDBERG's pick. He came in 12th I think.

I'm sure Fat Hank was creaming his pants somewhere.

Then he probably belittled and insulted the person who pointed out the stain.

also no truth to the rumor that Bryant Gumble didn't watch the derby because there were no black jockey's and he was getting ready for next years MARCH MADNESS!

Personally..I think the preakness sets up for Barbaro better than the derby did. All bets are off in the Belmont..

As for that ride...(Point Given), I remember it well..it cost me alot of money...

Gary had him well located throughout (about 8 lengths off lead) and inexplicably began to move him with 6 furlongs to go on the outside...he was moving him into the first flight..A first flight that was setting Derby records for splits (a suicidle pace)..

Point Given was then asked to go at the top of the stretch, and he HAD NOTHING...Stevens used him up by asking him to run a sub 22.0 to move up 6 lengths into the first flight...he used him up early.

he then rode him patiently asking him for one run in the preakness and Belmont..the rest is history.

That horse was a monster. Scary too..he looked like a T-rex.
