"University of Kentucky defensive coordinator Mike Archer said he withdrew his name from consideration for the defensive coordinator position with the NFL's Miami Dolphins and will remain at UK.
Archer said he was contacted Feb. 17 by Dolphins Coach Nick Saban and flew to Miami the next morning to discuss the position. Saban has expressed interest in using the 3-4 defense, the scheme Archer ran while linebackers coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1996-2003 and for the past two seasons at Kentucky.
Archer had expected the Dolphins to make a decision by Sunday, but things continued to drag along. Archer said he told the Dolphins yesterday morning that he was taking himself out of the running...:
