I was just wondering how many of us would accept poor performance on the field like last year, since the outcome would provide top draft picks for future?

Personally, I like the approach Saban and crew have been taking with the team; the "make haste slowly" viewpoint.

And seeing that this draft we seemed to do better than historical "Dolphin avg" with the draft picks caused by the losing (4-12) record and thereby securing the #2 overall pick, I am thinking as a potential best case scenario for the future of the ballclub how many of us would be willing to suffer through just one more losing season to have the top 3 selection again?

Or, would you accept this only if it was the #1 overall pick?

Or are you in the NEVER EVER EVER will I accept losing camp?

Perhaps others on the site take the viewpoint that anything other than playoffs and therefore the potenital for a SB victory each and every year is the only thing worth cheering for (the draft-picks be damned view).

I can appreciate this viewpoint, so the question is, how many of us are willing to accept a less than stellar win/loss record if the results provide the top draft pick spot for just one more season to improve the talent to help us in coming years?

You play to win the game

That's what I say. I want every win this team can possibly get.

Draft picks are nice, but you can make an impact picking from anywhere if you're smart about it. Our last two drafts have been good in terms of who got picked, and the picks came in very different positions.

How could look veterans in the eye, like Thomas, Taylor, Seau, and say we are laying down for the season to get high draft pick? No, we are playing to win, and restore the pride in this great organization!:beerbang:

No. If we have a losing season, then we have one. I for one will be wanting a SB victory as always. You don't go into a season wanting to lose.

No F'in way.

As stated earlier you play to win the games. Nothing is guranteed and as we all know, securing a top 3 pick means NOTHING!!

True! As a fan, I can appreciate this view.

However, reality has to set in at some point, and what I am getting at is if and when math and reality dictate that performance with the win/loss record clearly demonstrates that playoffs are not an option, at that point do you accept it and hope/wish you have the #1 pick?

Granted, we didnt want or expect the losing record last year. But the results came to pass and we received the #2 pick. Saban took Mr. Brown. and took other solid contributors with the remaining top round picks.

If I could get the #1 or Top 3 pick (depending on which teams have #1 and #2) I would be thrilled if they dont need a QB and we get the best QB available at the #3 spot. With the other picks we can put two years together of top draft picks to help the other areas of need on the team.

I wouldnt want 3 years in a row of top picks! :D

I dont think salary cap is the reason to avoid the top pick in the draft approach.

No I dont want a top 5 pick this year it would ruin our franchise if it was a bust Qb and costs way to much money compared to a mid first round pick

Can someone justify logically how a top draft pick in back to back years would ruin our salary cap? I think thats fear-mongering and just not reality.

I just dont see how, two years in a row taking a top pick would financially ruin a franchise. The financials work themselves out. We would be able to afford the player, and structure their contracts over the long term to have no greater or lesser impact than any established veteran would have on the roster.

I just dont see it.

Clumpy, do you have or know of any facts to support or disprove the "top draft picks ruin a franchise for salary cap reasons argument"???

NO........NO...........AND HELL NO!!!!!
I didn't want to see us lose last year and I don't want to see it this year. Quite frankly I don't want to see it any year. Lose for draft picks???? Geez I don't get this mentality. I just don't see how a fellow Phin fan could wish a losing season on this team. I wanna see wins....plain and simple.

I never said I want or am wishing for a losing season. I want the SB again.

Therefore, I am wondering if the greatest chance for that to occur is another year of top draft picks.

What it really comes down to is this....

As a FAN of the Dolphins, "I" dont think we have the QB or O-Line play necessary to produce results on the field that we all want and had come to expect in the past. Therefore, I am prepared for a less than expected winning record. I dont think the talent is there yet.

What I would accept if thats the case, is back to back years of a top 3 draft pick selections (per round) to improve this team and get our swagger back. If thats what it takes I am all for it.

Make sense?

I don't know anything about the Super Bowl this year, but I will never support losing.

Absolutely not. Teams that historically (not neccessarily recent history) pick in the top 5 several years in a row are perennial losers i.e Lions, Cardinals, Jets, Bengals.
The teams that have maintained winning traditions always have solid (if unspectacular) drafts or key FA additions to maintain balance on both sides of the ball. The Dolphins were one of those teams until DW came along.
