I'm new the board obviously, but I just wanted to wish you guys luck in finding a new coach and I'm sure you will because the Dolphins will always be a storied franchise because of their rich history. I'm a Saints fan and have been from birth, but I always respected Shula and rooted for Dan to get a ring.

At the same time I live and grew up in Baton Rouge and graduated from LSU so dealing with the Saban issue, I know exactly how you guys must feel right now. I kept telling myself noway he leaves here, he said his family loves it here, he seems so happy, etc and he kept reassuring us that as well. You guys know how it went down and even though I was shocked and hurt, I still wished him success in the NFL and was thankful he didn't go to SF or ATL because I just can't pull for them. Anyway I rooted for him to do well even though the way he left left a bad taste in our mouths.

My wife actually painted a portrait of him and gave it to him at one of his weekly radio shows for his birthday, in what turned out to be his last year here. Here is a picture for those curious

She put alot of work into it and even wrote on the back that we appreciate so much for what he had done for us and hoped he would stay a long time.

When he left I was mad that he was gone and how he did it, but could completely understand the move because it was his dream job to be an NFL head coach. Now he goes and heads back to the college ranks only 2 years later and I can't say that I actually blame him because if he truly left because of his family, then that's the way it should be because in the end it all comes down to family.

My point is that I just have a problem with the way he handles himself in these situations. Don't come out and say.. I'M NOT GOING TO ALABAMA, OR MIAMI or wherever.. just say you can't comment!!

Sorry for the long post, but just wanted to wish you guys luck in the coaching search.

Welcome to the board, I'm not mad at the guy for leaving, I'm actually glad he left the team is worse off now than it was before he came at least now with him gone we can start getting things turned around for the better. I am a hell of alot more optomistic about the teams future at this point.

As far as the no comment thing, if he would say no comment when directly asked by the media to state he was not gonna be the Alabama coach it would have been the same thing as saying he was going to be the Alabama coach. I understand his position he was forced into saying that and he did it because he didn't want it to be a distraction to the team. I think most coaches would have done the same. I even said before he admitted he was leaving that him saying he wasn't going to be the coach of Alabama meant nothing because it was said during the season.

Unfortunately for you guys he took you to a championship then dumped you for the NFL and now goes back to compete against you as another teams college coach.

I can understand your disdain for the man, I dont agree with the way he handled everything here but I can't blame him either for alot of the stuff said during his PC's while the season was still underway, what I can blame him for is making a shambles of this team then going on national TV and saying he left the team in better shape than when he got here and blaming all his problems on Ricky not being here, Daunte being hurt etc...the man refuses to take accountability for his actions and took the easy way out by giving up and for that I will call him a coward and a hypocrite.

How do you feel about playing against Saban and Alabama in the SEC West every year?

Welcome to the boards...As a person of high integrity that Saban claims to be, his actions were very uncharacteristic. I don't think people would have such an issue that he lied because coaches do that so much its become part of the game. However, the difference with Saban is that he continuously preaches the same message about honor, integrity, and fortitude, which are all characteristics that he failed to display in this whole fiasco.

I guess it's just that I've seen other coaches handle it in way that I felt was better.. it's all a moot point, but I have a hard time believing anything he says now.

Exactly.

As to how do I feel about having to play him in the SEC each year..... well I can't say that I'll enjoy seeing him on the other side, especially if they beat us, but it sure will ignite the rivalry that had kind of faded in recent years.

Talk about some serious coaches in the SEC!!

Thats understandable, the man wrote a book on loyalty, perservering, never quitting he is a total hypocrite in that regard and he is a fraud by his own making. My intention is not to defend Saban by any means, I am just defending the decision to say he wasn't leaving when forced into it by the media in order to not be a distraction to the team because it's the right thing to do regardless of who the coach is.

Well, the situation is a little different. Saban did a lot for LSU.....two conference championships (I think?) and a BCS title. And he obviously left the program in good shape because you guys are still rocking under Les Miles.

Here, Saban accomplished nothing, and left a mess behind.

How about my situation?

I'm an LSU senior and a huge Dolphins fan.

Saban has scorned both my teams. But like someone else said, there's a difference. He won a national championship in Baton Rouge. He went 15-17 in Miami.

Honestly until this all happened and then reading posts from you guys I didn't realize how bad he had left the organization.. that's not cool at all.

Oh I def. appreciate all he did for our school because we are still reaping benefits and will for a long time, and I don't blame him for making the decisions, he just needs to work on how he handles things. Not that it matters to anyone but me, but I just don't see how I could ever trust a word out of his mouth...

I don't think you know quite how we feel, as LSU fans you should have been happy for Saban. He put your team on top of the world, for that he deseved to take the next step in most HC's lives. Instead 90% of LSU fans came here trashing Saban for leaving. I'm not including you, what I'm saying is Saban brought LSU the top prize, so to trash the man for moving on and up with his life is a bit selfish. However in our situation he comes to Miami along with all the hype and until two weeks ago when all the Bama news broke 90% of us Fin fans felt like Saban at least had things going in the right direction. We knew Wanny left this franchise a mess, so us fans were willing to wait for the process in turning this team around. Instead Saban lies over and over then sneaks out the back door.

He doesn't face his responsibility, instead he leave it up to WH, a man who's been more then understanding. What Nick did to LSU was understanadable, what Saban did to Miami was unforgivable. Us fans put our heart and souls into this team treating Saban like a god and he turns tail and runs when it gets tough. Everything he stands for, everything he say's has little value and as a recruit thinking of going to Alabama, how can you have Saban stand in front of you and tell you he's committed to winning, when his recent history tells you if he's not winning he quits??? I hope to god Saban fails in Alabama, not because I'm bitter, but because he doesn't deserve the position. He's sending the wrong signals and he represents everything you try to discoruage in the youth of America especially in any organized sport, lying and quitting.

Can't argue with you there..... like I said I wish you guys luck in finding the right guy.... we seem to have found that guy for us down in New Orleans... man what a different a REAL coach makes. Payton is my hero

I don't think Auburn's Tommy Tuberville and LSU's Les Miles are going to have too much trouble beating Saban in 2007. I don't see Saban re-building the Tide back to a perennial top 20 team until 2009 or so. By then, the Alabama boosters will probably already have bought out his contract and got someone else. The key thing that will do it is losing to Auburn. No doubt about it. Ask anyone that follows SEC football. Alabama has lost to Auburn 5 years in a row. The Alabama boosters won't be able to handle 7 losses to Auburn in a row. When Auburn coach Tuberville holds up the 7th finger, it's probably over for Saban.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Don Shula in the stands in Auburn at this year's Auburn-Alabama game. Don's probably more of an Auburn fan than ever ... especially since the Dolphins have Ronnie and Jeno James ... even though Mike Shula coached there last year and played for Alabama. Alabama and the Shulas ain't getting along too well at all these days.
