In 3 out of 4 games played, the unit has only given up 1 TD score. That's crazy - Seattle got 1, Cleveland 1 and tonight 1. Wouldn't you take that every time? So what gives? How are we 1-3? Why is our offense epically poor at sustaining drives. TOP is so bad it's almost hard to believe. For being on the field like 1.5 to 2x the number of plays as the O, the D has held its own scoring wise. At least by seasons end we'll have the most well conditioned D in football.
 
Our defense played better tonight, but let's not kid ourselves, they were absolutely horrible against NE and the Browns.

Our offense had been inconsistently bad up until now, but they were consistently horrible tonight, mainly because our passing game completely collapsed.
 
The defense played some struggling offenses. Yes they have only given up 1 touch down in 3 of four games but it's not like the ineptitude of the offenses had nothing to do with it. People can consistently move the ball on us and good teams will drop 30+ on this defense easily. This btw is in no way shape or form an attempt to give the offense offense a free pass. They have been equally as bad if not worse.
 
I get the points you guys are making but at the end of the day, only 1 TD against in 75% of your games means you should be 3-1 or 2-2 at worst, right?

IMO we should've beaten the Seahawks but lost to the Browns, so 1-3 sounds about right.
 
Both units are horrible on 3rd down. Defense can't get off field. Offense can't sustain drives. Even worse tonight since there were a lot of manageable 3rd and 5s that we couldn't convert.

Our defense has been good enough to win 2 of 4 games, IMO.

The offense was good enough to win 1 of 4.
 
We have to be careful overrating our D. This has happened a lot during these dark ages of ours. Our offense is so bad that it slows down the pace of the whole game and in that slog it seems our D is better than it is. I like the way our D played today but Cincy easily took back the lead and was running out the clock. Now they're a poor run offense so they kept stalling for FGs but if they had to keep opening it up we likely would have been in serious trouble.
 
I'm abashed that people think the Fin's defense played well in week one vs Seattle with a patchwork offensive line and a hobbling Wilson & Graham.
 
The defense that was expected to be bad and is playing a ton of snaps seems to be improving and playing hard for what they are, while the offense that was expected to be better is regressing and making it harder for the limited talent defense.
 
The defense is playing much better than I thought they would with new CB and weak LB.....I thought this team would give up points on regular like they did against the Pats.....to me that's the silver lining, the coach will have these guys playing well once he gets better players......right now nothing to like about the offense, can't pass, can't protect, can't run, can't get first downs, can't score and then turn the ball over .....
 
Teams have figured us out on D. They get the ball out fast, motion wrs to get off press, and run up the gut when we blitz the edges, and quick slants or roll out over our lbs. We need to play how cincy just played us- trust wake, suh, and Williams to get a good pass rush and man up on everyone with help over the top.
 
On offense one thing I saw that looked good were those shotgun traps. We should be doing more of that type of running while still going no huddle with the threat of passing.
 
I think people overrate not giving up only one TD.
Drove from their own 26 with a major drive for a FG
Drove from their own 11 for anothe big drive and a FG
14 okay drive from their own 16 for a FG
11 play drive to start game that started from their own 22

Our defense did not give up alot of touchdowns but they drove the field plenty of times for those scores.
In reality the bengals offense has not been all that good this year.
