I was at the game yesterday. The crowd was totally jacked up, the weather was great, and the atmosphere itself was perfect for a home playoff win. The only problem is that the team was MIA. They were so flat, and played so visibly timid yesterday, it was obvious they weren't comfortable / confident enough to win this game...

Pennington had without question one of his worst games, but the OL was getting dominated most of the day as well. You can't have success throwing the football when you're on you back half of the time, and even when CP did have minimal time, he was never comfortable while dropping back...

Chad still rules in my book, the OL was just not prepared for the Ravens front seven yesterday. Not many teams are, so I can't come down on them too hard. They gave it everything they had, it just wasn't enough...

The Ravens defense deserves most of the credit for our offensive woes. They are truly one of the NFL's most dominating defenses ever, and they win games by ruining the opposing teams offensive game plans. Nobody runs on them, and trying to complete a pass with Reed roaming free back there is a nightmare. Simply stated, the Raven defense took over this game....

In regards to the Miami defense, it was equally over-matched yesterday. We were unable to produce any consistent pressure on Flacco, and although the running attack of McLain / McGahee was limited, it didn't make any difference in the end. Not being able to apply pressure on Flacco killed us, and had we been able to take him out of his comfort zone ealry in the game {like we were hoping}, things may have been different....

No tears being shead here however, the defense did a very respectable job throughout the regular season for the most part. If there's anything I would add, it would be a big time pass rusher, and a couple of solid players to bring into the secondary. We played too much bend - don't break this year in my opinion. I hope that changes in 2009....

Offensively, there's not a lot I would change heading into the off-season. I'd love to see us go out and get an elite WR {TJ Houshmandzadeh}, and maybe bolster the OL with a couple of proven veterans, but other than those areas, I like what we have at QB / RB / TE heading into next year....

A HUGE THANK YOU TO Parcells, Ireland, and Sparano. As a long time fan / supporter of the Miami Dolphins, I owe all of you an enormous amount of gratitude for turning our franchise around and making us a respectable / contending football team again. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined an AFC East Championship in only one year. Here's to you guys!!!...

The Ravens defense is susceptible to big plays. The problem is you need to have the talent and COMPOSURE to withstand their initial punch. They were tired in the 4th quarter and the momentum was shifting. However, our young players wilted under the pressure.
The Ginn mishandling on that end around was a classic example. It doesn't matter that there was pressure up the middle.
An expereinced player keeps his composure and makes the play.
On CP's 1st int Ginn was actually wide open, but CP made a poor throw under pressure. The second int. Ginn had a full step on the DB. Problem was he tripped and then CP aggravated the situation by underthrowing the ball and throwing it inside toward the coverage. Those 2 plays made the Ravens secondary look better than they were. The plays were there to be made, we just lack the talent to make them.
The last 2 int's were a puzzle to me because CP usually doesn't force throws into double coverage, but such was the case yesterday. Perhaps he felt pressured to attone for his earlier mistakes.
CP's last 2 int's were just thrown into coverage

I'm not giving Pennington a free-pass, he made some poor decisions yesterday, but the Ravens defense certainly contributed to them being made....

Very nice post, I completely agree with almost all points.
On the first pick, the throw was high but Ginn seemed to mistime his jump and could have at the least gotten a hand on it. Plusn Penny got absolutely CLOCKED after he got rid of it. I saw him walk off the field and you could read his lips: "What happened?"

On the last pick, Reed came from out of no where. It almost didn't seem real it happened so fast. After the game in his presser, Penny just smurker and said that one "was jut Ed Reed being Ed Reed".

Bottom line, Penny made some bad decisons and throws, but he was constantly under pressure.

Nice post indeed.... thanks for the review... basically what I saw as well.

In a loss like this I'm not sure anyone gets a free pass to make comment of your later post. It was a team loss.. even with Pennington's 4 INT's.

We definitely an upgrade at WR.. not saying the Trifecta will go out and sign a big name FA... but I expect it addressed in the draft at least.

I also agree that both our lines need improvement. But somehow I just don't see us throwing around allot of money (Unless Peterson comes on board).. I still hope they use the draft and keep building with young talent.

Don't even suggest such a thing!

I was also at the game. Sat in the end zone ( the one we were in most of the day, not scoring) and it was pretty hard to watch man. Sat next to Jason Allen's family, very nice group! If i knew how to post pics i would put up a cool shot. Can someone help me with that?

Great job as usual Blitz. Im honestly not sure if Im going to post much for at least a day or two more but, I felt like I should read your post and Id like to offer a response. Overall though, Im just too devistated to read/write about the phins right now. I left the house after the game yesterday and went to the casino to play poker for about 10 straight hours to avoid thinking about the game.

Anyways.......like I was saying, great post. I agree with all of it. But, I thought the D was very respectable yesterday despite the lack of a pass rush. During the end of the 1st qtr, I told one of my friends that we needed to get a TD lead and try to stay at least 1 TD ahead at least going into the 4th qtr or they would wear us out as the game went on.

I noticed on the Ravens 2nd drive, they were going to run the ball well on us all day and we were not going to generate any pass rush without blitzing. Therefore I felt like we needed a TD after they tied it at 3-3 because of this fact. We were simply getting manhandled on both sides of the LOS. As the game went on, I knew we could really get worn down if we left them in position to run the ball on us and therefore sustain long drives and continue to beat the **** out of our linemen.

So I feel like stopping the run was our biggest problem yesterday, then the lack of pass rush. For one thing, we generated a little rush starting in the 2nd qtr, but most of those were blitzes. We also held Flacco to a pretty bad game. Yea, stopping the run was the biggest problem and that probably helped make it more of a problem for us generating a pass rush without blitzing.

We were simply manhandled by a better team yesterday. The Ravens are damn good. Their QB isnt that great, but man can they play D and they can sure as hell dominate up front and run it down your throat with big brusing backs. They were ripping steady 4-8 yard gains on us yesterday.

But I will say Im very proud of our team. Like I said, I thought the D was very respectable for us yesterday. They all played their ***** off. And when you consider we got no pass rush, yet their QB had a ****ty day, to me that tells you our secondary did a pretty solid job yesterday. Im tellin ya, once those 4 guys got in a groove with each other down the stretch, they have played really well. I think everyone is sleeping on how good our secondary is. We still need some upgrades there, especially in the depth, but those guys have done a nice job and did great yesterday.

And the whole team played their ***** off. We just didnt have the quality of players on the roster of that Baltimore club. They are one of the elite 5 teams in this league(Tenn, Pitt, Bal, NYG, Carolina) IMHO.

I loved how this team refused to quit yesterday. Down 20-3 we couldve folded up like Zach or JT, but not this group. They made a helluva effort and really couldve wound up winning that game had it not been for the 2nd Reed INT that cost us at least 3 points, the blocked extra point, and the missed opportunity on the fumbled exchange caused by the pressure up the middle(or lack of talent at the C position for us ). If those things work in our favor, we may have been looking at 20-20 or even 24-20 phins late in the 4th qtr.

I have to stop thinking about this game for now. See you guys sometime soon. :(

I was there too, it got a little rowdy in my section at the end of the game. People were throwing full bottles of water at each other including the security. Not cool at all. That sucked, losing sucked, and my buddies car got broken into little stuff got taken, somehow they got the window down and played with the DVD player but didnt take that or anything really of value.

Other than all that we shattered the attendance record I think there was 74,422 people there or something like that and the place was electric. Looking forward to next season though.
