I just finished watching the player interviews on the Dolphins site and it seems finally they are going back to the basics. It was said the coaches went through all the plays from the last 6 games of last season and determined what they were good at, what worked and what didn't and they decided to simplify everything for this weeks game against the Bears.

Well I'll be damned it's about time!!!

I really wish they would have done this during the offseason as opposed to waiting for the BYE of this season but I have to say after listening to all the interviews I think this team has a renewed confidence and I think the outlook for the Bears game just got a whole lot better!

Kind of sucks if we miss out on a top 5 draft pick at this point but who cares , it's more important to find a winning formula!

Go Phins!!! :dolphins:

Hopefully this works because it seems as if they have their confidence back and that is important for this upcoming game. Hopefully they stick with their renewed system and look like a new Miami Dolphin team.

that is all fine and dandy, but bottom line is talent is what we are lacking. Not coaching

That..

That's GREAT!!! and you know what? a talk to Santa and he told me that because i have been a good kid ,he will bring me a Playstation 3 for chrismast!!

Who cares about missing out on a top 5 pick should we win. Hell we got a top 2 pick and he hasn't helped. We need a Big Ugly Nasty Smelly draft of Linemen.

our coaching sucks !!!!! the play calling is some of the worst in the nfl!!!!! in the tampa tribune it said & had abreak down of the teams who run the football the ball & the teams that dont!!!! dolphins W/ brown & the bucs w/ williams dont run the football & guess what both are gonna Have a losing a year !!!!! DUHHHHH!!!!! WHY ????? maybe the coaching

Do they?

Do this coaching staff know what they are doing?, it took them 6 losses with the worse teams in the leage to notice that something is wrong? ,do they know what basics is?, do they think that basic is a computer languaje?, all i know is that there is a lot of miscomunication on this team, everybody is going there own ways, and nobody care. No tears, no shame, no remorse, nothing. We are on basic, that is nothing to it.

Our play calling is the worst in the league?? Where do you find the time to study all 32 teams? Do you have people on the inside that attend the coaches meetings and study the films? Wow, you have a amazing talent!

I was just thinking something along these lines. The Fins were a different team last year so what worked then might not work now. Not only that but our last 6 games mostly were luck, or having players sit out game since their team was already in the Playoffs.

Things might work against second stringers but dont fool yourself into thinking the starters would fall for them.

I hope back to the basics means doing what won us games last season because we barely won one this season. Move people around for mismatches maybe? Chambers in motion and in the slot? Ronnie Brown being fed the ball when he's getting over 4 yds. per carry. The receivers on this team though do need to get back to the basics of catching the ball. I can't believe how many meaningful drops this has had in crucial parts of games this season.

As for the defense I hope they figure out that Zach Thomas is not a blitzer. Jim Bates defense looked better than this year's. He did have better, younger players but if Saban's defense is so complex and our players aren't catching on because of either lack of knowledge or more likely lack of ability in this scheme than it should be simplified in order to suit their strengths.

EDIT: And one more thing, if Ronnie is starting a game only getting 2-3 yds. a carry don't go shotgun for the next 3 quarters! He is a bruiser who will wear down a defense and I hate to say it but we need more Wanny-Ball, not completely, but Harrington throwing every down is only asking for INTs. I said it all off-season, we should have re-signed Sage Rosenfels. It wouldn't have costed us a 5th round draft pick and he is better than Joey. He proved himself last season as a capable back-up and he did that again this past Sunday for Houston, almost bringing them back from behind. He had 3 TD and 1 INT that was thrown right in the WRs numbers and bounced into a Titan's hands. If he would have caught it they may have won that game.
JMHO...

I think I found the article in the Tampa paper you're talking about. I agree, we need to find a way to not get down 10+ points early in the game and RUN THE BALL !!

http://www.tbo.com/sports/bucs/MGBWKI49ZTE.html

"If the single biggest determining factor in NFL games remains turnover differential, commitment to the run may rank a close second.

This past weekend, teams with more rushing attempts than their opponents went 12-1, with the Broncos the lone exception in a 34-31 loss to Indianapolis.

The 10 clubs with the most rushing attempts in 2006 have combined for a 49-22 record, compared to 26-46 for the bottom 10. Some of that disparity is a function of the scoreboard, falling behind early and often, but there's more to it.

Running the ball successfully is also a state of mind, a determination to simplify the game to its essential roots and physically dominate the line of scrimmage."

Go Phins!!! :dolphins:

They can call whatever plays they want, but they still don't have a QB that can effectively manage the offense. They screwed up this season by getting CP and JH and letting Frerotte go. That's why they are losing and they aren't ever going to get back to winning until they solve the QB problem. A perfect example is the Jets. When Pennington plays they are a completely different team then when he is out. That's the Dolphins right now, no QB means no winning season.

Well I agree about the Frerotte situation being mishandled but I think if Harrington can get more comfortable out there he could be a game manager. I think it is going a bit overboard to say they will never win again with these QB's certainly its a bit early still to say that considering Frerrote essentially had the same record at this point and he had more playing time with them under his belt.
