The Dolphins have been advocates of the relatively expensive Veteran QB philosophy....whereas Belichek and New England believe in the draft a young developmental QB to back up your starter which is more economical.

The advantage of the Veteran QB is the experience factor if your starter goes down...but let's face it...Matt Moore is not going to lead a team to a championship.

I believe New England is paying Garapolo about 4 million less...than Miami is paying Moore.

Also....having the young developmental backup gives you the potential for trade value.

Ron Wolf did this very successfully in Green Bay.

I personnally favor this philosophy as 4 million is also another starter as well.

Thoughts?

My thought is that I look around the NFL every single week during the season and see absolute garbage at quarterback, backed up by even worse garbage.

You need a backup quarterback who can step in for a game, a quarter, or even a series and create a credible threat of scoring a touchdown.

In the NFL I typically see two types of backups: Guys who can score points but turn the ball over or are otherwise limited in some capacity, and guys who will just play safe with the football and do nothing, hoping somebody falls down to create a scoring play. Give me the former, every single time. Give me Matt Moore.

I think that has been our goal...to develop a young guy and rid ourselves of Moores salary and or obtain trade value but we have failed. I think Moore and Tannehill have a close relationship and the comfort zone he brings is worth keeping him around in managements eyes. I agree with the notion that a cheap backup with an upside is the way to go but ala the Pats it isn't so easy to find. The Jets have been trying for years and they can't seem to find a 1 or 2.It's not easy but of course the blueprint of the Pats doesn't work for two many teams, ours included.

Patriots have the luxury of using high picks because they know they will be still competitive as long as they have Brady Belicheck, they only draft QBs to flip them for profit later, they were able to do it one time with Cassell and haven't been able to since. Unfortunately we don't have that type of luxury until we can obtain more picks. but I agree I would like to draft a QB in the middle rounds with some upside or potential in the future drafts.

Ah...but we have a QB guru in Gase...remember.
.Gase got Tebow to lead a playoff run

I would say NE is better with Garapolo at 4 million less than we are with Moore...and now.
.they may get a boatload of pics for him.

Right...but we have a QB guru now...I think Moore's days here are numbered.

It would be ok if are Starting QB was a top 5 QB in the NFL.but he not even in the top 15.why worry about a backup when we don't have are future QB on the roster. Tannehill has to become at lease consistent top 10 QB. Before we worry about backup veteran QB or a rookie QB 2 teach.

Don't kid yourself. Tebow isn't a consistently accurate thrower of the football, but he's talented as hell.

He'd be a huge upgrade for a number of NFL teams right now and I firmly believe that. The best move the Jets could make right now would be to sign Tebow to be their starting quarterback. I really believe that.

I'm all for drafting a qb in the middle rounds. The problem is that we have so many holes and a lack of depth to do that. Moore is bad at qb, but he's not bad as a backup. Although, he's not worth his salary. Also, I'm not sure if I would even give up a 3rd for Jimmy G. Hasn't shown anything.

Lmfao!!! Have you seen him throw a pass? There is a reason he can't make a team.

Yeah. I saw him throw this one:

That ship has sailed. I like Tebow but he can't play in the NFL. He's a running qb with no speed. He can't throw, and it's been implied that he has a learning disability that prevents him from learning the playbook. Apparently, he's not better than Cody Kessler or anyone else because no teams are remotely interested

Garapolo has what a game and a half under his belt. It might be great tape, but so was Flynn's from GB. And the only QB that has been above average after leaving GB, or NE was Brunell. And that's been what 20 years of time.
