Pat Kirwan mentioned today that a couple of veteran QB's could become available after the draft.

he mentioned Weinke in particular
 
There usually are some quality QB's out there when teams cut down in training camp as well. Hopefully DC's knee will be 100%.
 
I think the reason Saban wants to get this done is because QB's generally have a longer learning curve than most other positions. Given that team meetings started this week, he would have liked to see our backup be there.

Thats why I dont think we'll wait until June.

Haha. Unless we have pro-bowl caliber players at every position (including backups), some people will never be satisfied.

there are other QBs still not being mentioned that are available. all have drawbacks but what backup QB doesn't?

Vinny Testaverde - way over the hill but the guy can still sling the ball with the best of them
Tim Rattay - could be a decent, young, cheap stop-gap backup, has starting experience, albeit for a crappy SF team
Seneca Wallace - is a restricted free agent, but the guy has talent
 
Is Rattay an FA or not? Ive read conflicting stories about him.

If hes available, I would be all over him as our backup. He has starting experience, a live arm, good pocket presence, and can be had for cheap.
 
I think we should go get Ryan Leaf out of his coaching job and get him as a backup!!
