Just heard Michael Smith on ESPN say we were only behind Green Bay in dropped passes in the redzone with 9. This kind of stat makes me crazy when listening or watching the games. I know we had AT LEAST 2 in the first game vs Pitt, Hagan and Chambers had one. Those points probably would of went a long way in some of the early season bad games.

yes that is why we need a WR in the draft. i think we will do away with most of the dropped pass problem this year. i think that stat can be misleading though. i think i wouldnt be trying as hard too if we were 2-8. those WR will make those catches when we are 6-2 or 8-3 this year. I think we have a team good enough to do that if they play up to there potential

This year was an inconsistent one for Chambers, hopefully the bad streak is gonna end and he can play as he did in 2005, as for Hagan, he was just a rookie, he has the talent, and with some practice he wont drop as many balls..., in college he showed up to be an outstanding player, but when nervous, drops a lot of passes, then he practiced a lot and he was very consistant again, he might have been sorta nervous in his first year into the NFL...

Hopefully they can show me that I'm right!

GO PHINS!!!

haha wow didnt even realize it still said that, thanks for that postermaster

The drop stat is a misleading one period. A prefect example is PhinfanfromMD's avatar. Let's say Chambers has that ball go off his hand and fall incomplete, that would be counted as a drop because he touched it. There is no way that should can't as a drop. They don't give infielders errors when they dive for a ball and it carrums off their glove.

That's not true and it wouldn't be counted as a drop.

i.e. the game when we came bck from 20 down against Buffalo. The one that Sage helped lead us back in.

Sge throws a beutiful pss that for some reason Chambers slides. Hits him in the #'s and drops it. They did not register that as a drop

If anything the drop stat favors the WR.

Were also 3rd in least amount of players drafted since 00.

I just have to disagree. I have the game this year vs. Chicago on tape and on the first drive Chambers is credited for 2 drops which were both very questionable in that sense. I've seen it happen to Chambers countless times where he lunges out and gets a hand on it and gets charged with a drop.

i disagree with most of what you say, as a reciever i heard the following statement from my coaches at all levels of play....

"if it hits your hands you should be able to catch it"

Hands or hand? So you're telling me that if you were fully extended, parrallel to the ground with one arm stretched out and the ball hits that hand that you should catch it?

"if it hits your hands you should be able to catch it"

all of my coaches said that too, but in reality it is not true. if you extend as far as possible and it nicks your fingertip, there is no way u can catch it.

I've always believed that when an entire TEAM is having the dropsies it's a focus problem and that's a coaching problem. Let's see if it improves this year.

I honestly think Mike Mularkey and the QB carousel combined to inspored lackluster concentration and effort from the offensive guys in general (except for Wes).

Also, how many of those catches did he actully have to make a stretching catch.

There have been many times where it seemed as though Chambers overexaggerated on making a catch.

With your example, no I wouldn't sy that is a drop. Not at all. But they don't count those as dropped passes

However, any unbiased fan of Chambers will tell you that Chambers had alot more drops then he was credited for.

The dropped pass statistic is unrealiable because it favors the WR.

I would like to agree but why would that have any effect on Focus? If the ball hits you in the #'s you should catch it regardless of who is throwing.

It does effect timing obviously. But if it's a focus problem there is only 1 person to blame and that is the WR.

Ever since Chambers has become our #1 he has had a focus issue

lol geez, reading all those threads it makes me think are these the same peeps that want to trade Booker(prob best hands on the team)and draft Ginn?
