I can't see a worse matchup for our ailing defense than the Baltimore Ravens.
For one, they're the most balanced offensive team in the NFL. Flacco is under center a ton more than any other QB in the league. That OL is in my opinion, the biggest, strongest, best run-blocking group in the AFC, if not, the league. They have 2 deep threats (although Steve Smith has clearly lost a step or two).
How do we play this game? Putting 9 in the box like we finally had to do vs. the Jets is not realistic. Putting 8 in the box leaves Stanford/Aiken/Rose at risk. Play 2-man under leaves our DL in a huge disadvantage. R. Jones is going to be all over the field for this one. The guy's a stud.
Football is a game of chess but man, the Ravens look like they have a huge advantage.
A few things that need to happen for us to win this game.
-Attack, attack, and attack some more their starting outside CB Anthony Levine. Keenan Allen destroyed him last week and he is definitely low on confidence right now.
-The Fins must convert red zone trips into TDs. Absolutely no field goals. What's one way to counter their imposing offensive will on our D? Absolutely cliche thing to say but we are going to need to score more points than they do (duh!). I can't see us running much against them They have an extremely vulnerable secondary so Tannehill is going to need to be at his best a la the Broncos game.
-Don't let Jacoby Jones return kicks.
-Run draws, bubble screens, misdirection plays against this aggressive front 7.
-Don't let Forsett break the big one. He's going to get his yards, but bend don't break. Contain him!
This week's injury report will be huge. Hopefully Finnegan and/or Taylor can go. Clay would be a nice addition but Sims has held his own. and for gods sake, please start Shelley Smith over Daryn Colledge!
Let's go Fins! Biggest game I can remember in a long time. This game will tell us if we've (started to) turned the corner.
