Looks like a lot of teams are gonna jump on board with this new trend.

It's the smart thing to do. You shouldn't be allowed to drink at your workplace.

You would think MLB would step in and make this a policy but I guess the teams have to take action here. Way to go Selig!

I didn't know Bud Selig was a GM, but whatever.

And leave it to MLB to let players drink at the workplace on company grounds!!! And why Bud Selig and the higher ups at MLB don't step in here and put an end to this is beyond me. They are forcing the teams to take action here. This is why Bud is a joke. They can't get the steroids issue right. They can't get this issue right. And there are about 20 other issues they can't or don't get right.

This is one issue where they don't need the Union to agree with them on they can just implement it and they don't. Bud drops the ball again

I agree mike. I thought MLB would have the common sense to do this after Han**** got killed driving drunk. I mean steroids is an issue but isnt alcohol too when it starts affecting your players?

Mike, I agree full heartedly. Completely asinine that it's even an issue.

I totally agree. Unless you work at Coors or Anheuser Busch, you should not be drinking on the job. What would happen if a guy drinks a six pack in the clubhouse and then gets in a car and kills someone? The baseball club he is with would be liable. You just should not drink and drive, and should not drink at work. :shakeno:

I can tell you why Mike. If you check out Bud's background, you will see that his family was/is in the brewery business in Milwaukee, and Bud used to own the Brewers. Cutting off beer basically would be cutting off a family tradition.

I can't believe that teams had beer in the clubhouse. That just seems like a conflict of interests to me.

To be fair to the MLB, Han****'s death was hardly MLB's fault.

Maybe it's just me but I don't find anything wrong with a player sitting down after a game having a beer with teammates in the clubhose. Of course once it becomes multiple beers, then there's a problem.

Yeah, go to work at your place of business. Once 5pm comes and your off the clock, start to pop open a beer. See what happens to you and see how much longer you have a job.:shakeno: :shakeno:

I know this may seem hard to believe. But baseball players are doing a job. And the stadium/clubhouse is a place of business. Ya can't be drinking on company time on the premises !!

I'm with you bro, it wasn't like Han**** was driving home from work when he crashed, plus I don't recall anyone dying after drinking in the clubhouse so what's the big deal? Personally I could care less if a guy gets completely hammered in the club house. All a team needs to do is pay a tower boy a few extra bucks to hang around and drive home anyone who needs it!

See here's the thing: their employer provides them with the beer. It's not like they're sneaking it in or doing anything illegal, so if their employer doesn't have a problem with it why shouldn't they have a drink after a game? If my boss (or your boss) gave me and my co-workers a beer after closing to celebrate a good day or to cool down what's wrong with that?

not only that, the clubhouse is barely "at work"

Agreed. Hanging out in the clubhouse and drinking with your teammates has been around as long as baseball as been played. It's part of the bounding time with your team etc. I'm not saying the players have to get hammered but I don't see anything wrong with having a beer after a game and shooting the crap around.

The Han**** death is wrongly being linked to the MLB. Han****'s death happened a good almost 12 hours AFTER the start of the Cards/Cubs game on Saturday afternoon. If anything should be banned it should be the bar tender for not cutting Han**** off or the bar for not getting the guy a cab.
