Barry Jackson Notes: Draft Talk, Ireland Mention, Carl Peterson

This part is very interesting:

### A few people who were in contact with Ireland this past season spoke last week about how frustrated he was with decisions made by his coaching staff about playing time. One agent said Ireland would tell him something about his client and the coaching staff would then tell the player the opposite.

I would love to have Timmy Jernigan. the guy is a monster

My takeaway from this is that this draft might suck for us no matter who's running our draft. Our 1st rnd pick is practically in the 2nd round and so forth. Maybe it's never mattered more who's picking. We're really gonna need some Eagle-eye acorn picking.
Pretty dispiriting to know we're picking when all the early-impact guys are off the board. It'll be pure luck if we could draft a 2014 starter in this draft; pretty much 'project-city'.
It's hard to get psyched about though. We'll have to go into cap hell to really make this team even one-win better. We can't afford to miss on any FAs, like, at all or this team will take a big step backwards.

Ya, maybe those dudes who bought the plane banner should've ponied up a few more $$ to add Philbins name on it

The 19th pick is basically a 2nd round pick? Okay

What I want to know is why is Ireland even talking to agents about playing time? He should have zero input on that. That is the head coach and his staff's decision to make.

Also no mention of Richardson at #19 for G is a total fail.

Bro something to think about is he may have talked to agents in regards to playing time because there were contract talks taking place.

timmy jernigan showed me all i needed to see when he was on the sideline in the crunch in the national champ game...i will pass

Dolphins' biggest holes are at OL, RB, LB and WR. I think we also need to figure out what we're doing with the TEs. This is maybe the best offseason for acquiring a tight end that I've ever seen. It's a deep draft and should be a deep free agent class.

I think a lot of our holes on the offensive line can be fixed in free agency. All of these guys are scheduled to be free agents and all would be scheme fits:

--Anthony Collins (fill in LT for currently with Bengals. Would be a starter on most teams)
--Mike Pollak (athletic swing guard currently with Bengals)
--Zane Beadles (LG of Broncos. Quality starter)
--Alex Mack (star C of the Browns. Can move to G or move Pouncey to G. Would cost big $$, assuming he doesn't get the franchise tag. But worth it)
--Evan Dietrich-Smith (capable ZBS G currently with Packers)
--Rodger Saffold (with the Rams. Can play LT or RT. Likely to be a pretty big $$ FA. Not at the Jake Long level, but at, say, the Wil Beatty/Jermon Bushrod level)
--Ryan Harris (swing LT/RT. Mediocre, but capable)
--Mike Otto (backup type LT/RT)
--Joe Berger (remember him? He's a better fit for a ZBS than he was in our old power scheme. A decent backup)

Alex Mack is the guy I want more than anyone else because I think Pouncey needs to be moved to guard. He has struggled vs good nose tackles and I still think he's giving away the damn snap.

Now, whether he's giving away the snap by Mike Sherman's dumbass design or not, I don't know. But it bothers the hell out of me.

So silly of you. FSU had had a long layoff and hadn't had to play a game into the fourth quarter all season. You're really going to let one quarter override what you've been seeing out of the guy for two years? Pfft. For some reason it's seen as more valid to ding a great player for a mediocre bowl game than it is to elevate a mediocre player that had a great bowl game. The reality though is that it's the same thing.

It's not like this doesn't happen to great players. It was a common theme on National Championship night but Warren Sapp ended up sucking wind on the sideline one game against Nebraska in the mid 90s. Just totally spent. That was a dominant team, too. Ray Lewis, et all. Even the great players have a tendency to let their foot off the gas when they're surrounded by other great players and pounding people into dust every week. Then when they face a true challenge they're not always up to it. That doesn't happen in the NFL, where every week is a challenge.

Not that I think Jernigan should be the pick. I'm just saying, it's poor reasoning you're engaging in here.

I don't think Pouncey needs to be moved anywhere. The nose tackle thing is overstated. I mean, how many nose tackles are there anymore? Five, maybe? Seems like the whole league is either playing even fronts or the Wade Phillips one-gap 3-4 front.

I want Alex Mack because he's the best interior lineman available in free agency. If he plays center, so be it. But Mack could easily play guard if he wanted to. As I recall he played both in college, just like Pouncey.
