### With the NFL Combine starting, I asked NFL Network's Mike Mayock on a conference call today about what would make sense with Miami's pick at No. 8. He seemed most enthusiastic about Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves.

If Hargreaves "went 8th to Miami, it would be a heck of a pick," Mayock said. "He's that good. The most natural corner in the draft is Hargreaves. Great feet, change of direction, can play press, can play off. There's going to be a lot of conversation about whether [FSU's] Jalen Ramsey is a corner or safety.

"[As far as] linebackers, in the 4-3 type group, Myles Jack should be healthy. He and Jaylon Smith [whose 2016 status is in question after knee surgery] are by far the two best linebackers in that situation. A guy I think has gained a lot of steam in the last month is Darron Lee from Ohio State. He's kind of a weak outside linebacker. He probably will run in the 4.4s and everyone is going to get all excited about Darron Lee. He's more of a 20 to 32 [first-round range] guy for me. But he's going to go in the first round and he fits what Miami does.

"As far as edge guys are concerned, defensive end [Joey] Bosa is probably gone. Then you get into [Eastern Kentucky's] Noah Spence. I think he fits a 3-4 team a little bit better [than Miami's 4-3]. But in today's day and age, an edge rusher is an edge rusher."

### The Dolphins want to re-sign linebacker Spencer Paysinger, who had 25 tackles and played well on special teams in 14 games. Jelani Jenkins, Zach Vigil and Neville Hewitt are the other linebackers seemingly most likely to return. The Dolphins want to upgrade over free agent Kelvin Sheppard and under-contract Koa Misi remains at risk.

I think Hargreaves might be the safest pick in terms of immediate performance, fit, and value. BUT wouldn't it be a coup if the Dolphins were able to trade back to the teens with a QB needy team moving up? Most likely trade partners are New Orleans at 12, Philadelphia at 13, or St. Louis at 15. If Goff or Wentz unexpectedly drop to 8 or one of these teams fall in love with Lynch, I jump on a trade. If the Dolphins can put themselves in a position for Ragland, Lee, Apple, or even Jaylon Smith PLUS another top 50 talent, they have to take that trade.

2 of those 3 returning lbs are pure wills...seems unlikely to me miami would go that route...just hope they dont take one and miscast it at mike

I think darron lee validates a top 20 pick as a will...hes not as instinctual as lavonte david was coming out but hes a dynamite athlete and will test really well...i dont see him breaking into the top 10 though...id say 15 to 25 seems right and i will lean latter end of that

If its not myles jack skip the wills...hes the only one that makes any sense

Hey Hooshoops, just looking to clarify. Are you saying that Jack makes sense because you believe he can project to Mike?

Depends on what we do with free agency I would be ok with a corner at 8. For sure we need an impact player at 8

No he makes sense because hes the best pure lb in the class a top level athlete and the best coverage backer in like 10 years...and for miami stopping gronk is paramount and this guy gives us our best chance to limit that monster

He upgrades your sub your athleticism but he also should be pushing jelani jenkins in base to the bench...he makes jenkins a nickel and sub lb

It doesnt fix anything it just upgrades you at will and your nickel and sub

Honestly if VH is on the board when we pick, I am taking him. i like Jack more, but I think he will be gone. Miami needs game changing guys IMO.

Yep, you are getting a game changing LB and adding an immense talent to a very under-talented group. Still need a MIKE but he makes your LB group much better.

I would hope you are ok with CB . . . lol we need three of em,and there is nobody realistic in FA that will be better than him.

Jack will play contain vs misdirection a lot better than jenkins has in base...hes got much better pure lb instincts...its just that his game screams top flight wolb in a 43...in a 34 i could definitely see it not as the thumper but the cover and chase wilb which is why 34 and 43 teams will covet him

Same here because basically I see no scenario that we come out of FA comfortable at the outside corner positions, and most mocks have Jack going to Dallas ahead of us so going to assume he does not get to 8.

So what would the other chooses be at 8? Oline (hope not) maybe Dline (but who Buckner prob better in 3-4 defense) and would take the CB over any other LB's that would be there at 8.

I would love to take Jack at 8, but I am tired/worried about Miami picking injured players. I actually think he will be gone, and would be happy as Larry if Hargreaves is there at 8. I can see San Fran looking hard at him at 7. I just don't want Miami to draft an injured player.

I've said this in other threads, but if we hope to have a our pick of a few elite guys....

Cleveland and the Boys will need to look hard at and draft QB...it currently looks like it could go that way and there appears to be two guys many think are top 5 picks (Goff and Wentz). I also really hope that Buckner tests really well and moves into a top 10/top 5 player. I personally don't see it, but some will get enamored with that size/athleticism combo. Add in a Tunsil as a top 5 player and you are looking at at least 4 players I don't want or think we need going before Miami...

This is this best scenario for Miami to have a chance at an elite defender (Bosa, Jack, Ramsey or Hargreaves).

I really think Dallas is the wildcard will they go QB or not? Im going to say no they will get enamored with one of these other defenders. The Browns have to take a QB, Hue has basically said so along with Johnny's issuees.

Dallas is the one I think takes a shot at Jack....
